Looking for a compact 7m motorhome. Ideally have a tall fridge, not under counter type. Prefer island bed or arrangement that you don't have to climb over each other to get out! Garage for storage.
I've looked at the Bailey Alora but the fridge is all electric and pulls a whopping 40 Amp / day otherwise it would have been ideal.
Do you have any suggestions what to look at please?

Adria Compact SC.
It will also have a compressor fridge but I wouldn’t want to go back to a 3 way fridge. A second battery and a couple of solar panels solves the problem. Even better if you fit lithium.

This ^^^

We have the standard 84ltr Thetford 12v compressor fridge which is mounted high up and is miserly in it’s energy consumption, (a 149ltr version is available as an option), and has a ‘night’ mode to save even more and run quietly overnight. Great van available in 3500kg or 3650kg (no cost ‘upgrade’ from the factory) to satisfy U.K. licensing requirements - and can be up plated to 4250kg for greater payload with just the addition of rear air suspension.

Auto Trail Excel 690T. 170 engine, twin rear singles, narrow body, tall fridge, lithium battery power & 150w solar, 570kg payload on a 3500kg. Can be up plated to 4100kg as a paper exercise, 5 year warranty compared to Bailey's 3.

If it’s the ideal van I know it would be extra expense but you could easily solve that problem by getting lithium battery it might be worth considering sorry if it’s already been mentioned

Carthago Compactline i-138, two large double beds so you can have one each just as we do, well if you don't count the pooches who share with us!

Another vote for the Compactline but I would say that as we hope to be picking up a new one in the next couple of weeks.
Do you have a chart on the wall and you are ticking off the days? :)

First trip abroad already planned? :) :)

Enjoy!

Fingers crossed should arrive at dealers.
today.
Rather than getting excited I'm more worried about getting the electrics sorted.

Going to a couple of rallies then do our usual trip about mid September.
Dare not suggest going to Caravan Salon, I might not survive. 😊

I've got a horrible trip today, Simon hasn't managed to sell my van so 5 hour train trip then a 5 hour drive home.

Not so, we actually have an L-shaped lounge up front which is more than sufficient for our needs (it's actually a bit bigger than the one in Lenny HB's new MH but don't tell him! :giggle: ).

I have just downsized from a 7m Carthago Compactline but would thoroughly recommend them if you want a well finished, properly constructed motorhome of this size.

I find it strange that the OP started his request for advice on a MH with two items - a fridge and an island bed.

No mention about use/winter, coachbuilt/A Class new or S/H, budget etc.

More research and specification needed me thinks.

As stated in the request for information, I am after a compact mh. Something that remains quite narrow down its length.
There have been some very good suggestions here and yes, I am researching and looking into all the suggestions. Budget by the way is up to 100k. Use is mainly UK and will be used all seasons.

I find it strange that after the OP mentioned he was looking at a British built motorhome costing circa £75k, most of the posts are suggesting he spends a further £50k on an A Class.

That gives some more information.

In relation to narrow down its length I think that all coachbuilts and A Class have the habitation bodies at 2.3m, with one or two at 2.2m. To get narrower one would have to go to a PVC, but I cannot think of one that would have an island bed - no room to get round the sides.

Are you looking for new or S/H? If new are you prepared to wait a year or so, unless the dealer has a failed sale, but maybe not to your specification.

To be used in 'all seasons', even in UK, one needs good insulation. I would suggest aluminium sandwich is best.

A further point is that most island bed models are more than 7m, without sacrificing a lot of forward living space.

It is all compromise.

See posts #2, 5 & 9 - Adria Compact SC.

Coach built, no wider than a PVC, 6.99m with an island bed, and fully winterised construction.
