Hi, we have a 2010 Autotrail frontier navajo.
Recently had a water tank problem, see previous posts, and I got a new pump, thinking old one was faulty.
Went away last wkend and someone on the pitch next our motorhome commented how noisy the pump is.
To us it sounds the same as the old one.
It's screwed to the back wall under the oven, the pump has rubber feet.
Anyone else had this problem?
Now it's been mention and listening to other motorhomes our is very loud.

If it's new then pump not to blame. Accumulator after the pump smooths flow but noise is most likely pipes passing through walls/cupboards as they resonate. Or get your pump off the tank (which acts like a drum).

Jev don't you use city water inlet? Bypass pump completely.

Jev88, it doesn't have a accumulator, the only water goes to a hot water tank or to tap in kitchen and bathroom, or shower. The tank is under the vehicle.
The pump is on the wall under the oven.
You fill the tank from a tap, then only refill when needed.

Try loosening the pump screws a bit. On mine I put some of that white closed cell foam underneath it for extra cushioning 👍

If its a new pump and working as it should with no leaks it should not run unless a tap is on particularly if it has an accumulator

Richard n Ann, my first thought was put some rubber under it but Its fixed on the wall under the oven by 4 fixing screws that go through rubber feet, so it sit on rubber.
There is no air in the system it initial runs continuously when filling the tank as the pump is filling the hot water tank, then the pump only comes on when a tap is opened.

Is the pump running all the time?
Ours only running when filling the hot water tank or when a tap is on, otherwise its off.

Could you move it to the floor? The wall maybe amplifying the vibrations 🤔

We just had a new pump fitted and have done away with the accumulator, pump was moved fro it's original position for ease of future access. Boy is it noisy, moved from a back internal wall to an internal side fixing. If We were more flexible it would be going back to the original position. did suggest additional padding but was shot down in flames. At least it no longer starts up for no reason.

Mine was terrible without the accumulator, with the tap open slowly the pump would be switching on and off violently and jumping about.

Flow is better without the accumulator, no jumping about or switching on and of, just bloomin loud.

Thinking of putting some memory foam under the pump.....anyone done this?

Cheers🍻

No it's only when you turn the taps on we expect a bit of noise obviously but the knocking is very annoying !! Somebody said there is a screw that can be adjusted on the pump but we would have to unscrew the seat surely you shouldn't have to do that every time ! Also if the electric eg :- 10amp or 16
Would you have to adjust it back again seems a load of faffing about .

Hi, All thanks for your input so far.
Yesterday I removed the pump and put it across a battery to check it, it ran quietly.
Put it back in motorhome but just lay it on floor under sink and ran it. Noise was similar but not as loud, so next im going to remove pump outlet pipe and put another pipe on it so can pump into a bucket, so testing if the noise is from pipe vibration.

Any surface the pump is fixed to can.act as drum throughout the van. The rubber mounting washers if too tight will not damp the pump noise.

I was suggesting you add an accumulator - it smoothes flow and reduces noise.

Perhaps you haven't seen one before?

Check wherever pipes run through bulkheads, floor etc. We had that happen, a little judicious rerouting and padding made a huge difference.

We have had ours removed more bother than it was worth and removing it has stopped some of the noise/running on, do think our problem is the resiting of the pump we have some polystyrene from a bayttery delivery may pack some of thet round it see if it makes a difference.

When refitting your pump try fitting rubber washer (ideally rawl nut type would work using a thin screw) above and below fixing hole this should help isolate the screws from the pump

Hi All, well after isolating the pipe work both in and out of the pump, the conclusion is although the pump runs quietly it vibrates and this causes noise through whatever its fixed to. So I've relocated it to the floor and under it put some neoprene type foam and it has reduced the noise significantly.
Thanks for all you input, it's good to talk.

Most diaphragm pump manufacturers recommend, in their installation manual, that the pump should have a minimum of 300mm of flexible pipe for the inlet and outlet. The red and blue poly pipe is semi-rigid and therefore transmits noise and vibration.
Also in the installation manual they say " no elbows or tight bends close to the pump".
Unfortunately, the majority of van converters ignore this advice???
I have had to modify several pump installations and have always drastically improved the level of noise. Sometimes ending up with a pump so quiet, you struggle to know if it is actually running.
