Another daft question if you don't mind?

Do you guys turn your water pump on and off whilst parked up, or leave it on for the duration of your stay? I've been switching it on and off as required, but was wondering if that's the correct way to do it.

Thanks,

Arron.

The reason I ask is, not long after I bought the van, there was a leak at the filter when I turned the pump on. I spoke with a local caravan dealer who asked if I'd only be holidaying in Scotland. I said yes, for now at least. They gave me a section of pipe and told me to remove the filter as it's a common weak spot and a filter is not required with Scottish water. I think I've been a little paranoid about another leak occurring with leaving the system pressurised, so as a matter of course, I've just powered it on and off as and when required.

For information, I've got a Sureflo water pump in my camper.

Thanks,

Arron.
As bridgedino says its to stop grit and stuff getting in the pump you really don't want to run the pump without it.
I put a smear of MS4 silicone grease on the filter O ring that cures the problem.

pretty certain they are supposed to be, the ones i installed always have been.
Mine is but not always the case also with a roof vent SOG often can't hear the fan.

My van's water pump is off except when I need it. But then, so is the whole 12v circuit. It's not very far to go to switch it on.

Turn ours off when travelling as it has a form over function kitchen tap that you turn the nozzle upside down to close the sink lid. Unfortunately the tap lever is vertical for hot with the relatively heavy handle upwards. Going over a rough piece of road, vibration and gravity took over. Cue a lovely fountain of hot water. ⛲

So check tap is parked in cold position and water pump off before moving.

I was advised by the dealer that it's always good practice to turn it off when not in use. That's why it doesn't come on automatically when turning on the control panel.
You don't leave a light on all day when you don't need it.
That's because a light uses power. An inactive, but switched on, pump doesn't.

Mine's always on (pressure system).

We left the pump on the other day and unbeknown to us the toilet flush switch was stuck down. We drove for an hour or two, opened the bathroom door to find the bowl full and water and overflowing. Fortunantly the water ended up in the shower tray and drained away,

Submersible whale pump and pressure switch. Off when out. Off at night, one less light on display

My Malibu PVC has microswitch taps and doesn't have a switch for the water pump. The only time the pump is off is over winter when i remove the 7.5A fuse labelled Pumpe on the EBL262 and leave the taps open in the mid position (y)

Cheers

In the last van, ours was a microswitch activated pump. We used to leave it on all the time. Only time it was off was when we drained down the van over winter.

We always leave ours on when we’re using the van. No problems.

The only time our pump is switched off is when the moho is sitting on the driveway or the engine is running, been that way ever since we started owning them.

Your turns off with the engine running anyway as its a Brit van.
True, but would then turn on again when I stop. So eg winter if I'm going to be stopping in the dark I'll leave the 12v circuit and a hab light switched on.

I turn my pump on when I am cleaning and descaling my water system in early Spring. I switch it off again when (and if) I drain the tanks and boiler on the onset of winter. It means that I can use the taps and loo at any time I want and whenever I am in the motorhome.

When was the last time you turned your water off in your house, when you were going out.

I only turn the water pump off when drained down as the pump keeps running trying to fill the boiler.

Standard of plumbing is a bit different.
