What’s the general consensus on carrying a spare water pump? Heading to Europe for 6+ weeks and curious as to whether I should add one to my spares list or take a chance and know that I should be able to pick one up easy enough in France or Germany? Faulty pump would be a pain.

Where do you stop with taking spares? I'm sure there are dozens of things that could break.

It's sensible to carry spares for equipment that's known to cause problems on your van that could potentially curtail your trip away if they fail, how far you go with carrying spare depends on how lucky you feel.

Well, my pump isn't known to cause me problems. There are quite a few who might benefit from keeping a spare Comfortmatic gearbox in the garage though. ;)

Depends on what type of pump... submersible or pressure system pump ??

Submersible, .. yes and yes .. they fail regularly , even the expensive Reich pumps IMV are a piece of crap .. ..I carried two.. before changing for a Shurflo pump
Shurfo pump..
never had one fail.. I had one in my RV that we full timed in for four years .. four of us showering every day , and a domestic automatic washing machine,.. never missed a beat.. .. so no need to carry a spare..

In all the mohos I've owned, if they had a submersible pump the first thing I do is change it for a Shurflo ..
another bonus.. no need for micro-switch taps.. you can fit much cheaper and better quality brass domestic ones..
Submersibles work just as well as Shurflo on a pressure-switched system, flow more, and are simple to replace.

(Currently using a Shurflo, and carrying a spare, having had 4 fail over the years 🙂)

I have a tyre, a water pump, some fuses and bulbs, gaffa tape, cable ties and 5 litres of diesel.
I also have a spare Hymer Hab door spring, as they are also known to fail on a regular basis.
That is about it.

It's basically the things most likely to go wrong that I can do something about whilst away from home.

We also carry a spare.
This has reminded me that I have an unused spare Whale pump from our previous Elddis somewhere. I must have a look for it and put it on classifieds.

I'm on my 3rd pump, but still first gearbox.

I carry spares that are easily changed on a campsite or aire.

The more complicated bits I leave at home.

Every time I change any pipe work etc. where possible, I am changing the parts from the original 12mm to 15mm.
I'm sure this will help in sourcing parts from DIY places instead of relying on Motorhome retailers. 🤞

I do carry a spare.
& me.I have had one fiamma aqua 8 pack up & fitted a new one. then new valves in the old one which is now the spare for a sureflow I have fitted to this van.
Amazon next day delivery to a nearby drop box if required.
I assume that is to replace the spare you have just fitted?:giggler:
I keep the spare pump with the new clutch master cylinder next to the front & rear brake pads by the side of the complete auxiliary belt kit, & enough hose to replace the whole van water system + the 2 x turbo intercooler hoses. This is just insurance that none of these will fail.

I always carry a spare water pump, (yes it packed up once the NIGHT before a trip to alde, booked months in advance, so that would have been thwarted had I not had a spare)
I also carry a gas regulator spare gas and water pipe and numerous other bits but more importantly I carry a spare pair of suspension airbags👍👍
I thought I was the only one who carried spare goldsmith air bags x4🤔

Nope, I have two (full Alko rear air only) if they go bang, you’re stranded then you have to wait to get some!!
Better looking at them, than for them😉👍

I'm curious, why would Flairy carry 4 and you carry 2?

Surely 1 spare is all that's needed? 🤔

You have a valid point👍
I only have two airbags on mine (at the rear) but they will be the same age and could go the same week.
Good insurance all the same👍
Flairy might have different bags on the front and rear👍

Yes. I’m no Moho expert, but carry the essential need parts, it’s not like they’re gonna come down in price in the near or very far future. Mine failed at a perfect free beach stop. Changed in couple o mins. No brainer. Also spare tap.

If it is anything like mine which is in the tank unless you have access to a lift to drop the tank I don’t think it is worth it .

I carry tools, a gas regulator and a tap microswitch. Spare wheel.

That is why many change to an in line type pressurised system. easier to change & no need to drop tank

I do carry a spare.
Me too. Had one fail and bugger up a holiday so lesson learned. Cheap as chips and weighs sod all so why wouldn't you. Same goes for tap microswitches.
