Just getting ready the season. I have been sanitising the water system. I am now getting a pulsing at the filter which doesn't seem to retain water, and the cold water feed pulsates. Any ideas? TIA.

Ps: that filter bowl is after the pump so if the problem was post pump it would at least be filling the glass before emptying it again and causing the pulse.
Therefore to me the fault lies in the pump or the feed to the pump.

I would start with checking the filter bowl and seal. A crack in the bowl is not unheard of after a winter lay up. The pressure on the filter side of the pump drops to draw water from the tank but if there is a leak it will draw in air rather than water. In your case the amount of air looks significant. I agree with Phill D that the leak will be between tank and pump but I thought the filter was in line before the pump to protect the diaphragm (but always open to be corrected and learn something new).

The filter is before the pump. The water feed pipe comes up from the floor from the tank, has a right angled elbow then onwards to the filter. I have checked the clear part of the filter bow, which I replaced last year, and there seems to be a distortion in the plastic (see pic). I changed the pump and filter last year after pump problems and if I'm honest, it was never really good. I will order up a replacement and take it from there. Thanks guys 👍

The filter is BEFORE the pump to prevent debris getting onto the valve seats and holding them open.
It'll be the filter bowl is cracked as usual or maybe the bowl rubber O ring has failed

I'll nip to the motorhome tomorrow and take the cap off mine and send you a picture as I've got to get something out of van anyway and its parked on the tennis courts at work anyway

Hopefully it's a faulty cap and nothing more serious

many many years! since I was a kid
could also be faulty pressure switch and or non return valve not allowing the pump to build pressure and maintain it

Broken most bits now
Just needs time to pump through to 'solid" water - can take up to 2 weeks but usually just a couple of days

Try mounting it with the bowl underneath, looks like air in the bowl that won't clear.
It was originally mounted the other way up. I had previously turned it to bowl uppermost to see if it made a difference. Sadly it didn't.

Like mentioned position bowl to the bottom, clean mesh well as fine film of lime etc can slow flow, if not leaking should be ok.
If a shurflo pump did you adjust it when fitted.
Make sure you have a good supply of water in tank to help get the pump to prime.
If still no go, strip pump check for splits/damage/dirt, if all looks good clean and lubricate with a potable lube, refit and try again.
Forgot to say, check the filter bowl seal is good and lubricate it when refitting.

For info..
My filter used to be the other way round.. but it was a pain to remove glass lid and clean filter so I turned it so glass at top..
Since then mine does the same as yours....
Bubbles through the glass bowl....
HOWEVER water flows through taps as it should with to spurting or gurgling..

In general filter bowls are designed to hang down, so that trapped particles collect at the bottom away from the main flow. With these filters putting them upside down will not only let the particles fall the wrong way but will trap air in the upturned bowl, air which would normally be purged through the system and out of the taps.
