Watching UK TV in France. Isn't technology magic.

You don’t need a “mifi type account”. Any SIM card with data will do. The Vodafone deal that many of us signed up for (100Gb, £15 a month) is a phone SIM card, so phone calls, text messages, an DATA. But we just use the data bit.

I have got data on my phone (1GB / month!) and at the press of a button it becomes a Wifi hotspot, but I heard that there's a data limit using a phone like that.

My brother uses a phone account instead of broadband and had to het a special app so it looked like the phone was doing the streaming, rather than his PC (hooked up to the phone via USB IIRC).

I suppose I should really ask Tesco (where I got the phone) if they do big-data packages for hotspotting. Wouldn't even have to buy a mifi box then!

Also with EE both me and my wife both get 4G in France and Germany, that is who are phones are with.
Well, that’s very strange then. I don’t know why I got such a poor service. At the same time as I was getting “no service” or one bar on 3G, husband getting 4G with ID sim both of us picking up O2.de on auto select network.

I have an iPhone 5s
Have you tried totally switching it off and then back on again? Basic but it does help sometimes. I've got a 6se now and the network for it isn't great sometimes. Sometimes I switch it to airplane mode briefy and it seems to pick up a signal better then.

Yes, the lady on the phone got me to try a few things like that.

We seem to be following your footsteps again as currently in shiltach and went to to wolfach (not stalking just searching on mhf to see if there are any tips) and 3 on huawei gives as good as anything around here.
If you have a few hours to spare, we did like the impressive Black Forest model railway at Hausach!

Moved on today to gaggenau. Owing to the general cost in france at the moment we are replanning september and highly likely to be passing back through here. Substantial differences especially shopping

I will try and write up a report on our visit to Bavaria.

Apologies for moving completely off topic to everyone else !

Unlimited data allowance with NOS here in Portugal means I can watch or listen to almost anything I want... Netflix, Prime, Mobdro, YouTube etc. :whistle2:

(Always using my Galaxy Note 8 phone.)

Just checked and last month I used 132 GB.

€25.

JJ

Just started our jaunt to France and Italy and our second night here in Metz thought I would try something.
Have an unlimited data SIM card deal with 3 and with it now including Europe tried linking it to the spare Amazon Firestick my wife bought me for Christmas. Now find myself watching the Touring Cars on ITV 4 live in the nice Aire in Metz with the prospect tonight of not missing Top Gear. A year ago it would have taken a massive satalite dish and a contract with Sky, neither of which I have, to get live TV and while we are are not Soap or big television fans, it is great to be able to see the odd programme!
Why would you need a SKY contract or a massive satellite dish
Freesat with all the mainstream channels are available on 85cm dish in Metz area
I had BBC 1 ITV 1,2,3 and 4 plus loads of other free channels using Avtex tv with a built in decoder virtually all over France apart from right down at the Med last year
The below map is approximately where I lost most channels
