Not certain if you want the name and address but just in case MW Fahrzeugtechnik telephone number06445 6120500 they’re very helpfull I’ve been going there 19 years they’re Fiat commercial. But mostly motorhomes speak to Udo service manager or Mario the owner they speak good English ,good luck.

Hi, arrived at campsite, all good so far, slow up the hills but not to much smoke.
Try a fix tomorrow, possibly binding with wire or drilling and bolting, any ideas of a quick fix.
Thank you all for your replies.

Can you be a little more specific on the actual failure (which joint on the actuator link) so that I (we) can provide precise advise WRT to the fix please! 🙃

Couple of pics always help 🤷‍♂️

BTW - drilling and bolting sounds sensible, but remember if bolting, an actuator needs to move to opens and close the wastegate, so some play may be needed with either thread lock or a nylock nut to secure… you could also drill the bolt, north of where the nut seats and insert so wire (lock wire) to stop the nut backing out too much.

Surely everyone has duct tape on board👍👍

Pics posted by ppbear earlier are perfect, the area circled has separated.
The pin is still attached to the horizontal rod. Hoping to be able to remove the pin.
I need to attach it back on to the flapper.
Assume this will need drilling, but space is limited, not sure if the whole turbo has to be removed or not, obviously can't do that here.
Just wondered if anyone had some clever suggestions.

easiest way is to drill the plate it has broken from with a drill the size of pin. then use a bolt with washer under head ,another between plate & rod & 3rd one on before the nut which should be a lock nut so you can tighten it without clamping it tight.

If you could clamp a hammer modified small pipe clamp to the wastegate arm and then fit the actuator arm onto the post it may get you home. Space will be a problem if my experience of wastegate actuators is anything to go by. You can get clamps delivered to Amazon lockers if you can't get one small enough locally

Poor chap Rowdy Yates, I’ve been under the vehicles with a turbo problem and there’s absolutely no way of drilling in situ, impossible, as is the use of a nylon lock nut. These things glow bright red when the engine is running, so wire will melt, nylon in the lock nut will melt as well. Last thing he needs is it dribbling or melting onto the turbo and there’s no way I’d remove it while away.

It could be done at a garage, but undoing the bolts are a risky business as they may well easily shear, but a garage could deal with that and I should imagine a pretty big bill, especially if they had to remove the engine to sort out sheared bolts etc.

Now you’re there and unless you’re touring, I’d leave it alone until I got home again, just my thoughts and opinion, but good luck with whatever you choose.

One side question is why did it shear in the first place. The lever on the top of the turbo, that moves the rod, had seized on mine, I had to wriggle it free with a 12” adjustable, caused by a buildup of soot that had chocked the mechanism up. It could well be that yours is the same and worth checking as well 👍🏻 I now routinely check mine when it’s cold and see that it’s free to operate. I also lube it all, again while cold and leave it to soak in. It’ll only burn straight off if started immediately.

Hi, thanks for all your replies, new turbo fitted know, only real difference I've noticed is no whistle when accelerating. Power about the same, may be a little less.
Inspection of the old turbo, no play at all end to end, at little play but similar to the new turbo side to side, which I understand to be normal.
Replaced the clips so I guess I'll never know if the whistle was cured by this.

Not sure if a new turbo was necessary, but it's done, so one less thing to worry about on tour.
