Was this you

I did "The Wild Atlantic Way" on two wheels last year. Just a coast road really and parts not on the coast. Just a sales gimmick for tourists. It was working too, loads of people, motorhomes and they definitely knew how to charge for food and drink.
Yep that's all it is , the locals suffer , the businesses flourish , the tourists get fleeced and the attraction gets ruined

Ahhh humans

Other than the initial post..... Which is disgusting behaviour.

Maybe the Highland Council and tourist board should have thought about that BEFORE promoting the route.
What did they expect... A few family cars having a day out.
They can't have it both ways.
A good portion of the developments up there were funded by the European union too lol

Big signs on a few of the roads that gave been resurfaced

Having been a paramedic in a Scottish rural area for the last 14yrs of my working life I can tell you that most tourists are clueless when it comes to single track roads & emergency vehicles.
However, not all were bad, some folks went right out of their way to help.

Jan 5th 2019 ?
I was just going to post on this article as I’m reading it hot off the P+J press.
Beneath it is an article about the police hauling in 85 vehicles on one day last year, 24 of which were motorhomes inappropriately parked up near Bettyhill. The rest were speedsters and one marque tourers out on organised runs.

That' s human nature in a small percentage of people unfortunately. We can only hope their next sh*t is a hedgehog and the ambulance can't get to them for medical help:whistle:.
John

For once in my lifetime, I'm not sure what the treatment for the aforementioned hedgehog is John!
I'd imagine it'd depend which way around the hedgehog is facing, if it's backwards perhaps every prickle would fester.

Robert.

Well if someone can eat a hedgehog whole it SHOULD come out the bottom same way :-)

In that case , for abusing the ambulance staff , I hope it goes in nose first and the prickles get completely stuck in the arseh**es erse.

On this occasion bill the ambulance was parked outside a house and a motorhome could not pass it. Not the other way round.

It then created a tailback as the driver couldn't pass the ambulance and couldn't reverse ( probably due to the line of cars behind him )

Exactly, if the cars can't get passed the motorhome how on earth is the mh supposed to get passed the ambulance?

Anyone done the NE250? They've obviously piggy backed on to the 'success' of the NC500 but covers some beautiful spots up my neck of the woods. Would never think of stopping in Bunff though.

The NC500 is not a bad idea but it was implemented without the necessary infrastructure (toilets, car parks, MH facilities) and the roads have taken a real battering. Sadly conveys of sports car clubs do sometimes make it difficult to drive in the opposite direction and there are some idiots who do a timed circuit ... effectively rally driving on open public roads. All fairly predictable.
But when it was conceived the website did explain that some of the roads weren’t suitable for vehicles larger than VW T5.
I think the lack of reversing ability is common ... we live down a single track drive and I regularly have to reverse over significant distances because drivers are unable to reverse into passing places they have only jut passed (and probably should have stopped in).

It's another sensationalist story again giving just enough info to stir opinions. The ambulance was already at it's destination, there was no emergency to hospital required , it wasn't blocked by the motorhome. The motorhome could not pass the ambulance not the other way round.
The locals in that area are sick of the extra traffic created by the over advertised nc500 therefore they love opportunities like this to complain. if they aren't financially enhanced by it they are against it ....which is understandable. In this case the driver wasn't confident enough to pass , would have made no difference had it been a lorry or a large van....who knows maybe it was his first time driving a large vehicle. .it happens.

As always there's 2 sides to every story but reporting the true facts with both sides and supported by a bit more evidence would not sell the paper or get the desired reaction.
And here’s me thinking papers always printed the truth.......

Going up your neck of woods this summer , is there a reason to avoid Banff. Was there as a ten year old and it was ok from memory . 65 now so will have changed.
Any thoughts would be gratefully received.

We love the NC500....
... it attracts the "sheep" and leaves the real beauty of Scotland to those of us who know better (y)

No I say it in jest more than anything. It does have a bit of a problem drugs wise but nothing to worry about. We used to go fishing when we were little up that way, always loved Macduff seafront. It always felt busy and bustling, especially in summer.

Only time I go there now is when I'm going out on a charter boat from the harbour and my god the seafront is atrocious. A couple charity shops, a rehab place, a few Chinese takeaways and a burned out hotel. Such a shame.

EDIT: Oh and if there's anything else you want to know regarding that area just holler

Terrific worthwhile service Bill , unfortunately you get the odd nutter who goes where they shouldn't , wearing the wrong clothing and puts these guys lives at risk.
My humble opinion , if someone needs a helicopter rescue and are wearing ridiculous clothing , they pay for the helicopter , FUEL, CREW, AND DEPRECIATION. Experienced climbers can get caught out ,as you know , but they've normally got clothing that increases their chances.
Respect to you for doing your bit(y)(y).

So you showed them how to avoid getting into difficulty and go prepared(y)(y)
Spent three nights at Glenmore campsite with my 28 year old son about six weeks ago. Railway was off so we started to walk from bottom station to top station. Top of mountain disappeared into cloud very quickly so we turned back. Helicopter was out all night looking for two guys who had taken "wrong " path down and got lost in the dark. Thanfully they had the right gear on and hunkered down overnight . Helicopter found them walking down at dawn. Great that they were ok , but bloody helicopter kept me awake, despite having had a few beers in the Pine Martin bar:D

The story seeems to start about motorhomers but the notes left on windscreens all semm to be from locals who were blocked by the ambulance nothing to do with motorhoming but why spoil a rant if you can't pick on a lot of other groups perhaps we will be next!
