MH
dont own yet
Hi there
So Pleased to be a part of this group! Very wary of keyboard warriors as been bullied on Facebook in the past so please please be kind 😬❤️
This is going to sound very extreme but I’m looking at purchasing my first mh to live in
I’ve owned a touring caravan and loved it
I will be selling my home and cars and just going for it
Any help advice ideas on how I start and good or bad ideas?!

Have a think about NOT selling the house and buying a starter van or hiring one , possibly?
This way you can sample the life without burning your bridges.
Remember it is illegal to sleep overnight in a layby in the whole of the UK , I think I'm right, but of course you will get away with it many times.
Think of your budget, £20 a night would be a good start.
In winter if off grid gas will be costly.
Depending on money of course but a canal boat might also suit or fit into your wants and needs.
Hope this helps.
Thankyou so much for the advice I do think after a lot of thought I’d not sell my lovely home and have set up a savings account for my MH fund lol
Better late than never even if it takes ten plus years

Before we bought a motorhome way back in 2015, we discovered this couple of very savvy people travelling full time in their Hymer Starline Van with a pooch or two. (See Link Below)Their website is almost an encyclopedia on every aspect of owning & travelling arround the UK & Europe including Turkey.
They are very honest in how much they spend as they travel and do a spreadsheet at the end of the year detailing everything seperately. I was amazed that they managed what they did way back in 2015, I think it would cost well over double that today, even with their knowledge.
I was following one of their tours when they ended up traveling Sardinia & Corsica, then the story just ended abruptly, maybe it was a sick parent at home made them drop everything, but their last tour was 2018 I think, I don't know what they are up to these days, but I hope all is OK.
Maybe other Funsters will know more than I do and give me an update, but what a fantastic journal they wrote, so helpful to all of us, even years later.(y)

Think about all those truck drivers you see sleeping in their cab beds in laybys and paying those fines all over the UK

Personally, I have lived in caravans and motorhomes in the UK for months and months on end while working on IT projects (and used them for brief holidays) and now starting to explore Europe in a campervan for very long holidays. The joy for me is actually spending time between the camping and the bricks and mortar way of life. I really think most people need that stability. Probably not what you wanted to hear

Narrowboat life may be a better option

I bet you wish you'd never asked now 🤣🤣

I've been fulltime 7 years now , not all plain sailing , many ups and downs, many experiences, many mistakes, many amazing times , quite a few not so amazing times. I sold my house bought a van and just went for it....I have zero regrets about selling my house , I rattled around it alone and worked crazy hours to keep it ,maintain it etc . Its just bricks and mortar, OK I had a family base I could return to as I parked up on my mums drive in Scotland summer time and picked up some delivery work. I can't do that now as she died last September so things have changed a little for me but things will work out . The first 2 years I travelled fulltime and never bothered to work until 6 months in to the 3rd year.

Do I regret it

Absolutely not , there are ways to make a living on the road if you can work remotely online , or there are jobs like campsite wardens , event marshaling or farm labouring, fruit picking etc .. these are things I'll be looking in to doing now myself.

I'm not going to lie and say it's all sunshine and rainbows it isn't but there's a lot of folk on here who would never dream of selling their house or taking a gamble etc and that's fine I understand why .. BUT life is for living , if its something you want to do and are not scared to take a gamble then I say sell up, buy a cheap camper and go give it a try for a year. See how you get on .

Oh god no not at all! I welcome all and every bit of advice and I agree it’s each to their own and I believe you can always make money but not memories as well as the old cliche life too short
I am so sorry about your mom 😔my dad passed a few years back and it’s made my whole outlook on life rather different
I really admire you doing what you’ve done and life in general has many upsides downsides wether you live in a house caravan mh or unfortunate enough to be homeless
Life’s what you make it and my life’s full of twists n turns and I just want to live it before I too pop me clogs n join me old man
