Wales - meh

Sorry but the Bay Area of Cardiff was no different that day than the main st. In fact it reminded us of the tacky blackpool front to be honest.
Shell Island never heard of it but after a quick google can't see anything madly wrong with it?
To be honest I don't get a lot of your post as it's coming across (intentionally or not) as quite condescending, but one particular point I'd pull you up on. I don't remember a lot of people advising me not to make the trip?? But yes to answer about my judgment of the country, my opinion is just as valid as the first time I went to Scotland, Ireland or even France, all of which I loved immediately and all of which we want to return to. Are those opinions also "wrong"?
Its a list that agrees with many of your points

I dont remember anyone advising you not to go but that your 5 day itinery was optimistic in the limited time /distance travelling

First time I visited Norfolk I was disappointed been back 3 times to different areas missing out the parts I wasn't fussed about the first time was not overly successful due to my lack of knowledge

If you think Cardiff bay was like Blackpool give Tenby a miss the only time I've been to Blackpool I was paid to do so, and would not spend time at either

Thanks for the information I only ever visit the Bay for the theatre/dinner and have not been since before lockdown
Ok, ok no need for that attitude.
I said spent / walking on the Llyn Peninsula and no when I commented I wasn't aware of mobility issues but they needn't be an issue here.
Maybe you better stay home and leave Wales to those that can appreciate it without the attitude.
Maybe next time you travel anywhere do your research with your additional requirements at the forefront when planning and call the sites prior for local knowledge

Seems that you put up a post and did not get the response you required much the same as the facilities/time needed to to have a successful visit to Wales maybe your next visit will be more successful Good Luck

Yes I get it, but Im not sure how many times I can point out the wifes mobility issues negating the majority of walks etc.
I've said it's going to get another chance, I never said I hate Wales, but based on our first foray we don't feel like there's much to rush back to.
Sadly you have misinterpreted my reply.
I certainly wrote what I did with your situation in mind but was also addressing some other negative views that were expressed as I had indicated.
I specifically stated "Clearly, we all have different things that we want from a visit."

I made a variety of suggestions that allow for different levels of mobility.
Part of the Llyn peninsular coast walk is on pretty flat golf course and there are other parts that are accessible by vehicle.
Many canal towpaths provide good access and there are many accessible parts on the canals that I mentioned.
Thw Rheidol valley railway has an accessibilty statement and although there are some restricted areas it is intended to be enjoyed by people with mobility issues.
There is a car park at the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and pretty flat access to the aqueduct itself.
Many of the castles in Wales are accessible as are the lakes.

I didn't say you hated Wales. I said "It is a great pity that you got such a poor impression of Wales."

I didn't come here for a fight. I think if you reread what I wrote you will see that I was trying to be helpful and I certainly didn't make any disparaging remarks.

I certainly didn't come for a fight either but (and Im not talking about you here) its very frustrating when you voice an opinion of something / somewhere and have to put up with patronising comments and even accusations of rejecting advice, the latter seems to be down to several thinking that I'd be doing too many miles or be stuck in traffic.
This forums great no doubt and friendly in the main, but certainly seems to get a bit judgemental at times.
Jim at this point I'd simply rather have this thread locked or archived if it's ok and apologise to those that I've misinterpreted

We’ve tented, wild camped all of the Brecon mountains, the Black Mountains and Snowdonia. Rain or Sunshine some of the best walks in the UK are to be found there.

I met my wife while sunset abseiling off of the stunning viaduct at Pontsarn. We camped on the river bank and drank beer listening to the fast water rush by us. A prettier more magical place would be hard to find anywhere. Amazingly, this was less than a mile from the chip shops of Merthyr Tydfil.

In the motorhome, the kids earliest memories of the sea were made free parking on the beach at Amroth. Taking a canoe out feathering for Mackeral, so confident that we would catch; Siân would light the barbeque as we shoved off into the water. We'd gut the fish in the surf and pop them straight onto the coals. You don't get fresher than that.

Milenia past, Pembrokshire probably abutted Cornwall, when it split, the best bits stayed with Wales, some of the best rock and water sports and walking in the world. With locals 100 times friendlier than their Cornish equivilents (Though I agree that's not hard)

The Capital city has everything you could want, and it's not all spread over miles, its all there. From pie shops to the very best cuisine from department stores to tiny boutiques On Rugby match days there is not a better more welcoming city in the world.

Wales has a lot to offer, visit it for a few weeks every year for 5 years and you certainly won't be using that horrible Americanism, Meh.

Crumbs! We each like different things, places and experiences. I quite like the Gower, it’s like Cornwall without the busy busy crowds. I quite like Cornwall, it’s like the Gower with more people. Both have fab beaches. Cornwall is bigger. I’m not very gregarious so don’t often notice if people are nice or not. Good if they are, don’t care if they are not, as long as I get to see new places, and sometimes think - must come back, sometimes think - not for me.
I also like lots of other places… not big on towns, but like a castle (loads in Wales, lol )
enjoy your day 🙋🏻‍♀️. Ps it’s raining and cool - an unexpected excitement 😃

I'm heading a whole 45 minute drive up to the beacon to try a very small site outside of brecon
Not sure what it will be like only small vans accepted and mine is bigger than they normally take
And it's rained :Eeek:

They do. One of my favourite beaches in the world is Kynance Cove in Cornwall. Mewslade Bay on the Gower is probably my second favourite.

We are all so different!

I don’t particularly like going on beaches although I love a sea or river view.
The place I'm going is along the river and 10minute walk from Brecon but the biggy is
No kids or dogs
The no dogs is because some owners have allowed them to chase the chickens
It has excellent reviews and is very low cost
So will wait and see

We’ve had a trip to Bangor today quite enjoyable easy parking and nice old buildings, its a pity like most towns vacant shops and pubs but we would definitely go there again.

John.

Great cl and bass fishing at mewslade

Still free parking in Amroth today along the seafront. Want to stay overnight it’s up to u. Local community council put signs up saying no overnight parking, but as a business owner for the last twenty odd years in Amroth can not see the problem with overnighting. I think it would help us all if we were more motorhome friendly in wales and encouraged parking in areas even paying a fee to the community etc but this should be for another thread sorry.
Glad u enjoyed your time in amroth Jim. Back in the eighties we would be down water skiing every night in the summer when tide was flat. Party trick was standing up on kitchen chair being pulled behind motorboat. Cost of fuel and age has put pay to me doing that now, but today been another great day in the village serving ice cream beach goods and cafe food. Pirates cafe icecream and beach shop

Oh it’s many years since I have been in the pirate shop in Amroth . I’m up in North Pembs I will have to come down and say hello !

Well I think you'll find you are recalling wrong if you bother to look. you and others seem to be taking this all either a bit personal or just don't like my opinion based on the trip. The original thread were I was asking about somewhere near Snowden/Snowdonia and said were I was going ie Tenby, Cardiff etc and some talked about traffic and long drives. That's it, I didn't reject any advice, in fact I was obviously grateful to many of the suggested sites and in the end I wasn't able to go due to our Chester plan being scuppered.
The dismissive arrogance displayed in your previous thread was quite clear, and is shining through in this thread too.

Personally I would have been happy to tow you, your van and it’s occupants to the ‘Welcome to England’ sign.
