VVKB vs Eberspächer

Very tempted to fit a diesel air heater to save on gas consumption. Whilst looking at Amazon I came across the VVKB heater. See Amazon product ASIN B01N8POS1G
Similar to the Eberspacher but more than twice as powerful as the D2 and a bit cheaper at £488. Does anyone know anything about them?

I think you would want to ask about after-sales service. We have a Webasto and they have service agents all round the country as they are also used on boats. Ours (a Dual Top) heats the water as well but Webasto do a single air heater called the Air Top, not cheap, £600+, but I would have more confidence in getting it repaired if something went wrong. They are complex bits of kit.

Eberspacher are expensive and for a very good reason. Ask yourself the question why most of the road haulage industry relies on Eberspacher for long term trouble free use. The road haulage industry is a cut throat business and if corners could be cut with expensive cab heaters, they would be.

The above answers are spot on. I wouldn't but a vehicle second hand with this fitted, whereas I would with Eberspacher or Webasto

We bought a Sprinter conversion a month ago and we are really pleased with it. Lots of room after having a VW T4. The heating and water are both run off of a Webasto Dual Top. Although it works well we would like to have it serviced as it hasn't been used by the previous owner for two years. Our local motorhome company says that we need to find a company that specialises in the servicing of them. We live just outside of Bath does anyone know of anyone in this area? I've googled Webasto but all I get is suppliers of parts....

Try google with " halls yate" They service eberspachers but I think you will need to take van to them.

Thanks all for your replies. I think the VVKB is "the new kid on the block" and obviously, as such, hasn't had time to have any sort of reputation or history. I think the safer option with regard to repairs and spares has to be the Eberspacher then.

Regarding Eberspachers, how noisy are they? I've got a few possible siting options. Technically the easiest would be under our fixed bed but I'm wondering if the noise on cold nights might be annoying. That said, we already have the Truma heater there making occasional noises. Two other possible sites are further from the bed and on the other side of the van beneath a seat or in a space under the fridge that might be better for "silencing" purposes. Any thoughts?

Outside, they are a little noisier and sound like a jet engine when they first start up, but this soon reduces as it warms up. Something else to consider is that the Eberspacher has a fuel pump which ticks as it runs. This never bothered me, but I do know that some people find it quite annoying

I don't think I'd put one under the bed, they can be a bit noisy especially when they kick in if the temperature drops too much so you could end up being woken up ...

The ticking pump noise can be mitigated pretty much using the latest pump mount, my set up is in between the double floors of my A class so noise isn't a problem for me, it's also fitted with an inlet and exhaust silencer so outside noise is kept to the minimum,

Because gas is cheaper than diesel, especially if autogas, I'd prefer to look at the options for fitting a gas tank.

Running costs will depend on the price of gas, but may still be cheaper than diesel, even if purchased in small bottles.
