I see that there is only 6 to choose from. Is that so they can steer the public to who they want to win as there is less choice ?

They altered it to a short list of 6 and restricted the voting to the night after the list was announced. This was to stop "minority" sports from having a chance. This was done to ensure that there wasn't a re-run of last years event when motorcyclists got behind Jonathan Rea and made him second. As in all things the Beeb do, there's no bias there then.
