Vigil

I also fail to see how the sub didn't spot the massive tanker, they would have heard it coming from miles away, with their sensitive hydrophones, they needed the lovely Star Ship Enterprise LT Uhura on board, she would have "Hailed" them well before any collision.
Perhaps it was another attempt to cause an onboard problem first the snagging of the trawler, then the murder, the reactor problems, near collision a lot of different clues to who or what is out to get the sub or red herrings perhaps...

Another nautical pun!

I’m not sure a more realistic script would be very entertaining.
wake up, eat, go on watch, get off watch, eat, sleep.
most of the actual dialogue would actually be better if it was too mumbled to hear.
least that’s how I remember it.

Didn’t notice any muffled sound at all😊

Was good but would she really be locked in her ‘room’ as she was sharing with others and could she kick down the door?!?!
Enjoyed it tho!

' I've giv'n her all she's got captain, an' I canna give her no more.'

Star Trek for the twenties!!! Suspend your disbelief and submerge for the ride.

As an ex dog handler I questioned the authenticity of the same two dogs guarding 50ft of concrete all the time at the entrance gate, would never happen.
There again, they are probably sub-woofers..

The XO locked her in his cabin, she kicked the vent out of the door to escape.
Agree it’s far fetched but we are enjoying it too.

I gave up. Mumbling dialogue, unlikely scenarios, too many twists - got lost.

might try it on catchup sometime though.

Having served on submarines for 6 years I can say this about the BBC drama Vigil:
It's very much a BBC drama in that it has excellent, good and poor actors, the plot lines will drag you down lots of cul-de-sacs.
From a submariner perspective it's utterly cringeworthy. The submarine in interiors are woefully unrealistic, the crew verbal interactions are dismal, the broadcasts are wildly inaccurate and all spaces are much, much bigger than in real life.
It's a shame that they didn't listen to their Military Specialist Advisor as the cramped conditions, formal hierarchy and discipline would have added to the tension.

I can't understand why anyone is surprised that it bears no resemblance to reality on board a submarine. Do people think casualty bears any resemblance to working in AandE or that life on an everyday northern street is like Corrie!

Watch Channel 5 catch up :-
Submarine life beneath the waves.
BBC Iplayer :- Submarine.
Both give a very small insight into what life is like on a nuclear submarine!
Only one episode of Vigil left and do we know who done it!!!!

Yup but life can be just as dramatic

Submarine Life under the waves Chanel 5

A reactor alarm two murders a release of a nerve agent and they're still not done!. I can't believe real life on a sub is quite that exciting most weeks

The loss of two refrigerators along with the spoiling of the fresh food that should have lasted around the next 100 days the crew is now on reduced rations and tinned food (having to collect the refrigerant gas in a bag to stop it contaminating the air in the sub sounds like a line in the script). A fire and a rating with a burned hand it all seems reasonably ‘exciting’ just missing a few deaths I guess. Both are not exactly great films for recruitment.

It's more that the BBC team have missed an element that would've seriously increased tension and drama.

may be a different boat but I thought the worst bit was no smoking for 8 weeks.

Which boat?

Which boat?
"For the first time British cameras have been given access on board a hunter-killer submarine on live operations. Submarine: Life Under the Waves goes on board HMS Trenchant, a nuclear submarine, on its four month tour of duty to the mid-Atlantic to uncover the reality of life at sea. Living in extremely close quarters the crew are tasked with helping guard the UK’s Trident missiles and keeping British waters safe."

For those who would like a little more Submarine adventures how about Kursk

and for those who have not seen it the Hunt for Red October
