It was the older ones that got really hot they improved them 2 or 3 years ago they still get a bit hot but not like they used to.I recently replaced an old Sterling B2B when it failed after years of faultless service with a Victron unit, can't remember but it's the smart 30amp one, no fan cooling. Just returned from Spain (another story) with an unknown to me failed leisure battery that was obviously being charged all the time and, yes the Victron got warm but never what I would call extremely hot
