Very Disappointed

As a reluctant convert to a wooshbang I was horrified at the amount of force required to shut the door (so that the dash display doesn’t show the door to be open). If I’m parked up you can just gently push the hinge at the rear. The door isn’t really shut, but good enough for daytime use.

I did discover a small dent at the bottom of the door frame caused by slamming. It looks as though the door mechanism needs to be adjusted. It’s booked in for a 3-month inspection. I really hope this will make a significant difference. I hate the door noise as much as I imagine my neighbours do.

No they don't !

Have a Google.

Many, many, stories of vehicles being dismantled by Customs and nothing found and the owner simply handed a pile of parts and told to remove them now or they will go for recycling.

Apparently there is even a specialist garage in Dover who will pick up your vehicle and parts, and put it back more or less as it was.
(But only once you have sorted out if it's you or your insurer who is paying for it!)

This is what happened to me many years ago.

I was bringing a Coach load of passengers back from the 24hr La Mans and indulge in the Duty Free a little too much.
I told them to behave when we were taken to one side and ordered off the Coach but instead of behaving, a few of them stood spread eagled against the side of the coach!

We were all searched and the Coach was taken to another shed and 2large panels were removed, ALL the luggage and spare wheel.

Nothing was found and they told me they were allowed to remove panels etc, so they could search, but did not have to reinstate.

I had to ring for another Coach from London and a fitter to replace the panels etc.

The party arrived back to Surrey, 6 hrs late and a hefty surcharge on their bill as included in the, mainly football but other sport, contract T & C's.

Neither them, or us, we're happy! 😡

PS. I don't know BUT as the VAT is now part of Customs & Excise, perhaps the same applies if there's a VAT search on one's premises?

IF it's properly adjusted, you will find that by just opening a window to allow the trapped air to be released, helps close the door quietly.
(I found this out from owning a VW Camper for 40+ yrs 😀)

We try what we can to be consideration regards noise but unfortunately our sliding van door needs a bit of a slam to close it.
Given the number of people who say they have a hearing impairment it’s probably not an issue to slam the door…

Umpteen years ago, we tiptoed into Black Horse, Folkstone? after getting off the ferry @11.30pm Didn't upset anyone. Even kept the car attached, (we were tugging).
It didn't stop the 'Captn. Mainwaring gobsh*te warden having a go at Mrs Emmit for having the temerity for putting the legs of the van on the grass at the back of the van.

I thought all sites closed at 23.00 and the barriers came down?

Is this a Pub Stop?

It's a CMC Club site.Don't know if it's still the same but Black Horse has/had a late/early, arrival/departure section outside the site proper.
One books(ed) the stay and ones pitch is reserved and an envelope left in a Notice Board by the entry.

Still there, same procedure, come and go any time of day or night, code sent by email, for barrier, pitch number left in envelope by gatehouse

We have had several bad experiences parking overnight at Marine Drive, Dover. Boy racers, drunk’s and noisy other motorhomes and paid £10 for the privilege.
We now get a mid day ferry and overnight away from the ports both sides.
We have used Maison Dieu car park in Dover many times. It's 5 minutes up the hill from the port and is next to an NHS facility. Large and empty at night, no height barriers, and usually less than dozen vans and mohos in there. Very quiet, a good kip before an 0700 ferry.

We decided that we need a few days away to stop going stir crazy at home.....as we can't get away for more than a few days due to health, so, booked the Newhaven - Dieppe ferry for Thursday morning, left home in order to have a night in the park just outside the port..... everything fine, went and had a meal, had a wine and then went to bed....... at 00-30 a van arrived and made such a racket with doors banging and getting sorted...... anyway, back to sleep, then at 04-00 another inconsiderate b*****d arrived, not only slamming doors and shouting, but then let his sh*t machines out to run around barking and waking everyone........ We were most disappointed at this behaviour and am writing this just to remind all of us to be quiet and respectful when parking up late at night.
Not that I watch Soaps on TV , but ,what little I have seen, the Shouting at each other and arguing, can you not wonder why some who have grown up in this generation are thinking this is normal behaviour, I think TV has a lot to answer for, with regards to manners , and general behaviour.

im sure your right Tony, the plummeting standards of behaviour and attitude over each generation is saddening as people become immune to violence and bad manners. I think each generation has its own viewpoint, i dont watch soaps because they are rubbish and give a telescopic viewpoint to excite the mind. How many murders and and acts of violence has corry and 'stenders had in ther last 50 years ?? it doesnt reflect life - it amplifies it - nobody has beem murdered in my road - EVER, no riots or shootings or even fights - so yes watching todays telly numbs the standards of life. Of course anybody with a whoosh bang should be hung immediately

And yes the simple act of opening a window stops the air pressure vaccum., so simple, but i bet a simple test could be applied to the owners - do you watch soaps ?
:)

That’s exactly why I stopped listening to The Archers……….😱

I do not watch soaps. Will watching help me to shut my wooshbang more gently?

Point taken from you both .... as the OP had said they were parked just outside the port I assumed that they were on the lanes to check in?
Perhaps you could advise exactly where you were parked please, so others could avoid it?
No we were not in the check-in lanes, we were outside the port in the small carpark along side the station.... I assume the land is still owned by DFDS as there are signs that say you should see the DFDS reception and pay, however, the lady said as long as we were on the morning ferry, not a problem.

A strange tale, only vaguely related to the 'Noise Abatement' business, (but then I am a very vague sort of chap at times);

Way back, when I was still running the old Vista 200, it was probably 2008 or maybe 2009, we decided to adjust our normal journey start time, get a later, cheaper ferry, and park up on that horrible dock slot at Calais.

All went well, the ferry was on time, and we parked up easily.

After a swift night-cap, we made the bed up and snuggled up for a kip, intending an early start.

At about 1430. hours I was awakened by what sounded like an air-conditioner unit running. Very odd, as it wasn't all that warm outside.

The noise continued to the point at which I dressed, and went outside to see what the noise was.

It was our cooling fan ?

For some odd reason it had decided, of its own volition, to switch itself on, despite the ignition being off, and the ambient air temperature being typical for early September in Calais.

I fiddled and diddled for a while, to no avail, and decided that to avoid further disturbing other, by now, not-so-happy-campers, we would up-sticks and bugger off.

So, at approximately 03.00 (Zulu) we departed the docks, still with the fan running.

As day dawned, we pulled in at an autoroute rest area. The fan was still running, and continued to run even when I switched the ignition off.

We continued to a service area, and pulled in for fuel, still with the fan running,

Having refuelled, I had another shuftti under the bonnet; the left hand (passenger side) fan was whirring away merrily.

At this juncture I decided that enough was enough. I disconnected the fan. Blessed silence.

We continued to our destination, which was, as I recall, at La Croix d'Arles near Langres.

On arrival, and having set things up, I reconnected the fan. It started to run Immediately.

Such things are sent to try us, eh what ?

It being 'le weekend', there was little hope of getting any advice or assistance from the local Peugeot dealership until Monday morning, after all we had travelled some 300 miles since early doors at Calais, and it was now Saturday afternoon, so quite logically Mr Peugeot had shut up shop.

I tried reconnecting the fan on a few occasions over the remnant of the weekend, but it kept on running.

Come Monday morning, I reconnected the fan again, and sure enough, it was still whirring away to its heart content.

Off to the garage, where a very helpful mechanic listened to my basic French explanation as to the nature of the problem.

'Le ventilateur tourne avec le contact coupé', was the gist of things, with a few 'Ne fonctionne pas correctement' thrown in for good luck.

'Rebranchez le ventilateur' says the mechanic, OK says I, . . . . . . and guess what ?

Deathly silence. The fan remained idle !

Sods law had struck once more.

The very nice mechanic chap explained that it was probably a stuck relay, that had caused the problem, and I think his explanation as to how it had started 'all by itself' was related to a build-up of heat under the bonnet while the vehicle was parked, although I was not too sure about my translation, or the possibility of such an occurrence.

The fault did not reoccur during that holiday, and never happened again while the vehicle was in my possession.

All good fun, and in the best possible taste.

Such things are sent to try us, . . . . . are they not ?

I have had that sensor relay both ways, refusing to go and refusing to start...sighs, it was a long time ago now and I think at the time I bypass the relay and plugged it in when needed.
