The important thing is light comes from both sides. It doesn't work as well with a metal/grp wall in the way.
I was thinking, instead of having a tilting or angled panel on roof, have one that can be raised vertical on pitch.

These panels are bifacial. You'll get a bit of a boost on a white van roof even when laying flat.

I'm not sure I'd want, what are effectively sails, on the roof of my van.

Possibly van walls, but would have to be very thin ones. Pros ? no holes in the roof, more wall space than roof on vans.
Cons, ugly on the side. Van cleaning. shading when on most sites.
🤷‍♂️

enough to know i shouldnt touch things i know nothing about ....
one of the advantages of vertical mounted panels is their ability to 'lose' heat, which makes them more efficient - i have been toying with the idea of adding some along our gable wall .... (not bifacial though)

Why not?

I foresee a combined solar / wind turbine generator.

It will work in sunshine, windy weather both night and day, and also when you are driving along
