Vehicle Length on Ferry

I don't think that's the whole story because DFDS charge less than half what Eurotunnel do. I understand the need for a business to cover costs and make a profit, I'm just saying it's commonplace for some firms to charge what they can get away with and pricing may be based on little more than that.
I think some with pets would never go on the ferry, so as you say, would pay whatever the charge.
My son has to leave his dog in his caravan on the Newhaven ferry but it's for at least 4 hrs (usually more than 5 from the time he parks and then allowed back to his outfit) and the vehicle deck is very noisy; clangings and bangings, warning Klaxons, lorry engines, fumes and occasionally vehicle alarms going off.

Business is Business........think they call it supply and demand.

Allegedly they now check your registration or the computer does, with the DVLA records to confirm length.
and do what with us foreigners?
Why try and short change them! When you go to the Supermarket you don’t expect to pay for everything but the Frozen Chicken if you do it’s called Shoplifting it’s theft. It’s no difference they sell space.
So why do they complain
When I stop2m short of vehicle in front telling them I've paid for the space?

On the Oresund bridge in Denmark, sensors tell the toll booth operator the length and weight of the vehicle to the mm/kg.
I suspect some ports are similarly equipped.

I haven’t checked this but l believe if l did that costings are often worked out on what they can get, ie: a Car pays say £80.00 and a MH could be three times the length and on this basis should cost £240 but they can’t get away with this as people will look to book elsewhere so they adjust the price down and work on averages. This appears to be how the Tunnel works my 9m MH is simply classed as a Motorhome/Campervan as is everyone’s.

They need to know exact length because the bike racks on seven or eight m/hs could take up the space for another m/h.
They would need to be big bike racks.
Even at 600mm to rear of rack it wouldn't be enough room for a car.
600mm x 8 is only 4.8mtrs....but I know what you mean

Gus would get on:
It must be win, win with me then,4,9m length
But I know what you mean ;)
Incidentally I pay slightly more for me and my motorbike than for a hatchback. When I asked why they told me that there are generally more passengers in cars to spend in the cafeteria, bar and shop, Canny, eh?
