VED and collection of new vehicle on Monday 16th March

On the road price includes the road tax, whatever the price is. Not your worry if it goes up or down.

Our PVC is due for delivery. The price included £2000+ Vehicle Excise Duty, however the vehicle is not registered, therefore when it is registered in September it will cost £265.

I’m waiting for my dealer to get back to me with a revised price. The way I see it the extra VED was the taxman's not the Dealers.

A contract for a fixed price is just that , Ive been in business a long time & had to bear the costs of price of increases , also managed to get materials cheaper than i first estimated,IMO the OP has no legal right to a rebate in the fixed contract price , he can speak to the dealer & see if they will reduce the price BUT they may have already swallowed the costs of VED as many did , I hope he manages to get a price reduction
IMV there is a difference here, if you quote for a job the price is fixed and should be paid on completion, if it turns out cheaper for the business then I would expect if it was a decent amount that the customer would be made aware and an adjustment made, if a job is taken on and further work in addition to the original quote is necessary then I would expect the customer to have to pay it. However the purchase hasn't been completed (ie job done) so therefore until that time there is not contract in place. This is a 'tax' to which the dealer, if he was charging the higher rate, would NOT be entitled - he wasn't entitled to it in the first place as it was going to the DVLA so it won't affect the profit he was already making on the deal.

Agreed, I was just posting the same thing as you!

Okay, just an explanation of why my view is that IF the dealer was including the higher rate of tax that the overall price should be reduced to reflect the now lowered rate.

When the tax hike was being brought in the dealers knew about it well in advance and could therefore adjust their pricing to reflect this so the playing field was level for both customer and dealer as both knew at the time what the road tax should be when the customer placed the order for a new motorhome, so all well and good. However with the tax hike being reversed all of a sudden the playing field now has a distinct slope in favour of the dealer if he/she doesn't reduce the cost to the customer ... it's not a perk for the dealer to keep and rub his/her hands in glee and grinning from ear to ear. It was never the dealer's in the first place, it was originally intended for the government to pay a tax, so IMV the dealer is not legally entitled to it.

We ordered at the October show, the invoice included road fund at the £2k price.

I received an email from the dealer yesterday stating that my final payment would be reduced to take into account the budget.

When raising a contract for the supply of goods or services the agreed contract should always have a clause\s in it that detail the implications of changes to applicable taxes and duties. If it doesn't I would think the seller \ purchaser would have difficulty in making adjustments to the agreed price as the risk of changes to any tax \ duty would not form part of the contract and therefore the agreed price would stand.
What does the OP's contract of sale state in relation to duties \ taxes?

Anything with a “PAYLOAD” of 3500kg as per the official e mail, must be a big van ??

I think you will find a clause somewhere about "tax" As it is a gov obligatory charge variation would be allowed. We could then discuss VAT and the implications of a % increase or decrease!

It is written into law what happens with a change in the VAT rate, this surely is a contract

Great
Did you have to ask or did they volunteer the refund ?

I didn’t give them the chance to offer.......I was straight on to them after the budget. ;)

Forgot to say, he was in agreement with me........that money was for The Chancellor, therefore the dealers are not entitled to keep it........unless they’re not be honest / fair.

Amazing that despite the title of this thread and it being totally abolished in 1937 it still is in regular misuse.

Take a thousand lines.

Just had a phone call from the dealer.........£1865 off my order price for OTR charges. (y)

New order form with amendments to follow.
I can't imagine that any dealer would be any different.
