Hi, has anyone heard of this system? It's expensive at about £1250...but maybe an alternative to vanbitz...

I am totally confused!

My van is £25k and it seems these systems are being fitted to motorhomes at least twice this price..

I like vanbitz but their Strikeback doesnt include immobilisation which as far as I can work out is another £200 on top of £599.

Is that correct?

Thanks Toby

Nowt worth nicking…….

……have you ever been inside a van when the growler system has gone off? You won’t want to hang around to try and open the safe. Louder than an F4 Phantom on full reheat
What's in the safe that's worth a thousand pounds? How long would it take to rip the sirens off the ceiling?
I will take some convinsing to spend that amount of money on any alarm no matter how loud it is

Best of luck finding your van when it’s gone bud, no point in closing the barn door after the horse has been stolen.

1) nothing in the safe - you need to find it first anyway.
2) what sirens on the ceiling? How much time do you need to find them?

You can spend as little as you want but I know I have a deterrent for an intruder plus also a van that is basically as UnStealaway as anything out there. No apologies for the pun

I’ve put this on before my VanBitz system was fitted 2004 it keeps you safe while you sleep, when your out of the motor home , or parked on the drive . It’s fitted by people who know motorhome security and when you ring with question they can look you up on there system and sort you out.I paid for lifetimes cover and if it alarms my phone texts me .what more can you wish for,and it’s trouble free.
Exactly the same as my £250 Thatchem alarm.

Off the ceiling lol that’s as funny as suggesting a ’proper’ alarm wouldn’t be plugged into the diagnostic report plug or have funny wireless sensors lol

Both NOT allowed under Thatcham by the way

Just sayin

Oh I forgot, just as they started the install, Ian rang and asked about the tracker system !!

What tracker system?

Apparently the previous owner had installed one, there was no documentation and the dealer didn't know about it.
Got vanbitz to remove it

Just remember an alarm has two functions, one to protect the van, secondly to protect you.

I still don't like Nobitz :dance2: pompous arrogant England Rugby fan, the git even put on an England rugby shirt when we had our alarm fitted.. git, git, git.

Are you saying that wireless sensors and plugging into the OBD port are "not allowed" under Thatcham approval?

They are "tolerated" for ancillary windows, hatches and lockers but the main entry doors have be wired.

Mainly because they are so easily disabled from outside the vehicle

Anything plugged into the OBDP is 100% Non compliant

Thats quite strange as it would render Phantom's Thatcham approved systems not compliant.

Apart from being non compliant its just stupid to plug a security device into something designed to be used by a garage for diagnostic purpose on an occasional basis

Just makes life simple for the installer no other reason

If we are being realistic most Motorhomes (not all) have plastic windows in the habitation area rendering them stupidily easy to break into and steal any valuables even with sirens blaring. We never take any watches or jewellery that we are not wearing with us nor rarely any cash so as not to leave valuables in the van. The most valuable thing in our van when left unattended is the TVs and Sat Nav and they are worth a pittance as stolen property. At home a electro/hydraulic post that drops into the ground is a good deterrent and relatively hard to circumvent. Physical deterrents like reversing the driver's seat and fitting the Patriot with another long shank padlock through the steering knuckle joint are cheap and make access with the battery angle grinder (weapon of choice for scroats) difficult. Wheel clamps are pretty useless as access is easy for the aforementioned grinder. I have always thought E&P could have made a lot more of their potential as a security device by having to enter a sequence on the control panel before the jacks can be retracted (maybe new setups have this mine does not). Alas alarms in urban environmentd such as London just get ignored as an irritation rarely getting reported to a wholly disinterested Police force who leave it up to Insurers to pick up the tab for theft of or from vehicles. It always amazes me how lightly theft of very expensive vehicles (there is a plague of £70k+ 4x4 thefts in my locality) is treated so lightly by the police and the courts.

I thought I read that it protected the port against key cloning from the ECU which sounde good to me.

Ok I may be biased and only have Strikeback but looking at the market it was a no-brainer to purchase from eddievanbitz I have also experienced post sales support from them which was 1st class. All I can say is look at the recommendations here. Some have gone with other systems but Vanbitz do what they do really well.

Eddies team at Vanbitz fitted the Growler Alarm, plus door locker protection, bike loop protection, nearly 4 years ago to our brand new at the time van, its always worked as it should, no false alarms, ever since we found out its not a good idea to leave our smartphone on the dash charging up when you are at Fun Rallies with the alarm set.
We also have the Metatrack Tracker, which entails having a subscription, but it does get us a discount on the van insurance.(y)

The dual rear cameras and large screen fitted are also great.

We were brand new to motor homing, and I only knew about the VanBitz systems having joined the MH Fun Forum, so glad we discovered Eddie & his team before we took delivery of the new van, as our dealer was very keen for us to have their alarm, knowing we wouldn't get it insured with its high value without one.

I didn't explore the fitting of a "non starter" at the time, but have been meaning to find out from Eddie, how much this would cost on top of the MetaTrack Tracker that we have fitted?, I must give him a call one day and find out.

There is no worse feeling than the feeling of "Vanxiety" when you are away, and leave your van in a car park, thieves dont know how good a Growler alarm is until they try breaking in, which causes damage in most cases.
We do have other visible deterrents that can be easily seen, such as a steering lock, a rear facing driver seat lock, Clutch Claw, Proplate on drivers door lock (soon to be fitted by myself)
I have now discovered "The Bearlock" which has to be pro fitted, as the whole dash around the gearstick, plus the gear selector is removed to fit the lock.
It locks the gear stick (Manual or Auto) in reverse, it has its own key to enable/disable the lock which is discretely fitted under the steering wheel. This would not only hinder the van being nicked as that would be difficult to do in reverse, but would save on the weight of carrying all the other "Visual" deterrents that we currently have.
Get the Van Bitz Alarm, no one ever regrets it.(y)

Quite agree, but when the Growler sirens are going off, all you want to do is leave ASAP

New system called 'Pandora' camper

Now I'm interested. With the names behind the Pandoara papers protecting my van I'd feel very safe :ROFLMAO:

Growler and Meta No Start for our new baby. Very clean installation by the Vanbitz team, and apart from one little initial hiccup, which has now been fully resolved to everyone's satisfaction, we are very pleased with the overall security aspect of our moho. Ash even found time this week to squeeeeeeze us in to get a Victron SmartShunt fitted whilst we were needing to be onsite for the wiring check-up. Having now experienced the Vanbitz customer care, I would be very happy to recommend their services.
