Had a break and about to start again !
Hi all, I am interested in rapido V68 / D68 / adria twin type van conversion , am I right in thinking that a van conversion would be less likely to suffer damp issues compared to a coach built ? Having had issues in the past I really would like to try and avoid it again.

Why stick to relatively "expensive" high production converters.. get yourself a panel van, new or used, and get it converted to your design by the many independent (and talented) converters that are around.
My van has underslung gas..water and waste. Copious amount of storage, seating and bed where i want them, a brill shower toilet closet, full kitchen with hob/grill/oven and 190ltr fridge freezer and a rear garage that would put some large A or coachbuilts to shame. Don't buy what they think you want...Buy what you tell them you want/need. All to my design. And at much reduced price.

UPDATE : Collected today !
An excellent choice! We purchased exactly the same model having downsized from a 8.5mtr Swift Kontiki. We collected it

in May and have no regrets. We've used it extensively within the UK since then giving us very happy memories. To summarise, it's very reliable, comfortable and a joy to drive.
We hope you will have as much pleasure from yours as we get from ours.

We looked at these but couldn’t figure out where to store stuff Like camping chairs, Cadac, bedding, ramps, cables, shoes & general gubbins. If i remember under the lounge seats a lot of space taken my heater & tank. Genuinely interested as we always fancied the rear lounge having come from a caravan.
You will just have to get a Campscout or similar with a mass of storage under the beds.

I guess if someone plans on keeping it that’s ok, but it will always sell cheaper than a brand name. Or maybe not as easily. Just have to accept it will be a different resales compared to a brand, a bit like buying a write off it will be worth less.

We did this with our T5, had some great travels and enjoyed our time with the T5, however the snagging list went on and on and on for about two and half years with about 7 returns to get things fixed. As our last claim (on a previous fix) was deemed time expired we had to resort to a legalise letter (Notice before action) around malicious and misleading marketing. the issue was fix ed and we sold the T5 in a much better state than we had purchased it.

The conversion was done poorly by one of the fairly well known converters who do a lot of advertising and have had the odd article in magazines (even our camper had rave reviewers in one leading magazine).

I would say based on hindsite that Covered vans are fine and I am sure some owners are very happy with theirs but I would say Buyer be ware. When you compare the converters to the main stream Motorhome manufactures their is generally a difference in standards and quality. I know some will argue against this but this is from our experience. When we purchased the HymerCar the issue wasn't with Hymer or the build it was with the dealer as many on here can highlight.

Don’t forget to buy a couple of sliding door stops, it saves on noise and if you fit 2 then you can hold the door in different positions. The 3d printed ones are fine.
??? Where would you buy them please ?

Had our Adria 600 spb 2 years now. Love it big skylights make it light even in the winter. No leaks anywhere. Roof is quieter than our Chausson coachbuilt in heavy rain too. Had our La Strada van conversion for 14 years so probably a bit biased.

We downsized from a 654 Hymer to a Warwick Duo, cracking van but we found having to move the long seats together every night to make the bed, and then putting it all back again in the morning to be a pain. We also found storage limiting-probably because we had the Hymer for 7 years and got used to the space-we traded the Warwick in September and got another Hymer, but a 5.99 meter long, narrower Exsis 414 which suits us fine-and sleeps 4 if needed.

Condensation, is probably the biggest problem, but as they are basically a work van converted they should be well sealed. But so is a good Coach built with far more room. If you do get a PVC try to get one with an electric closing door.

Why would you want an electric door when you can just slam it?

And a very Happy Christmas to everyone on the forum, lots of very useful information shared by many. Thanks

We thought a van conversion was right for us had we had lots of good trips with it. Sadly rust became a major issue so we looked at what to replace it with. Budget dictated our choice so another van conversion would probably have the rust issues soon after we bought it unless we were very lucky.
We were offered a coach build with low mileage within our budget but it seemed too big for us and might restrict access to some places. After a lot of thinking and advise we took the plunge and bought it with a view to it taking us into retirement.
It is now sixteen years old and we have had a small issue with damp and a badly repaired front wheel arch is being repaired at the moment but we have more storage space and it’s proving to be ideal for our all year travels. As for access it’s not proved to be a problem. We have managed to get to most places we wanted to visit.
Our friends have an Adria Twin and we have a Compass Avantgarde. They love their pvc for all the storage but we like the space in ours as do they. When we go away together we spend the evenings together in ours. I’m not keen on tight spaces so prefer ours but everyone is different.
