van conversion
Hello just picked up our first CamperVan and because we are travelling with our lab Louie who we have realised really sheds terribly in the van, what vacuum cleaner is most effective please? Thanks!

Just like to add, we have had our dyson for around 4 years now and it has never let us down. Since we’ve been full timing (9 months) the Dyson gets used at least once a day, sometimes twice daily. 👍
We have a normal one for the house (the killer one)
We also bought a cordless a couple of years ago but it needs a new battery already☹️

Hi we have 3 dogs and I take my cordless Dyson with me. It works very well and doesn’t take up much space. Yes they are expensive but you get what you pay for, I’ve had it for years and wouldn’t be without it.

Has anyone tried a cordless Shark one yet? We've just bought a corded Shark for the house and it seems way better designed than the Dyson. I'm wondering if the cordless models are similar.

Got a cordless Shark anti hair one for the static we rent out and its very good! Have Dysons V8 Animal for van (very good) and Dyson V11 for the house (not so good) Dyson sent us , to start with a new battery, then a new body for the V11 as the base where the battery attaches appears to warp stopping the electrical connection with the trigger. If you have the room for storage the Shark cordless is is good bet. Customer service for Dyson is based in Cape Town and are excellent. No charge for what is basically a new V11 cos of fault. :giggle: (y)

Cannot live with the Dyson V11 😉 Mate has one and it's not Evan as good as a v7 😳

Im afraid I can’t agree with you’re you get what you pay for statement

I think with Dyson you pay through the nose but don’t get a product that’s worth what you paid.

imho 😊

That’s ok, there are always folk that think cheaper is better. Like I said earlier we had a contest between the gtech and the Dyson, well I say contest, in all honesty there was no contest. We placed a ping pong ball in the middle and turned on both vacuums. Like I said, no contest. I’ll leave you to decide which vacuum won every time, instantly.

Roll of gaffer tape picks up all hair and you can buy new rolls everywhere 👍

Dustpan & brush when away. Trusty old cordless Dyson DC44 when we return home. My Dyson is still on its original battery. Duxett has one of the later V series and to be fair it seems flimsier and the roller brush head needs dismantling when it jams and stops turning. There are good youtube videos that show how to fix Dyson cordless ones yourself, which is not rocket science. I'm sure there are plenty of customers who must be chucking them away needlessly.

To all those with a Gtech, how do you charge it when your away? We don’t use EHU very much so would like to charge from 12v but can’t see a charger that works on 12v…

It's called an inverter. (y)

If your not to sure what an inverter is, it takes 12 volts in and gives you 240 volts out.

I'm having the same dilemma, we bought a dyson lookalike from aldi for the van, absolute rubbish, wouldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding, we have a dyson v10 indoors and that is very good, i think we will buy a new one for the house and use the v10 for the van, the dysons are expensive but they knock all other cordless vacs that i have come across into a cocked hat.

I don't quite understand the need to have 2 of these things ... can't you just take the one from the house to use in the MH? If they were cheaper I could understand having a couple of them but with the price that they are a note left on the steering wheel to put it in would be much, much cheaper (or have a packing list which is what we have).

Have a Dyson V6 car & boat, works better than anything else we have tried but debatable it was worth the £150 we paid for it.
The car & boat does come with a good set of tools and extension hose that you don't get with other versions of their handhelds also 12v & mains charger.

I do take the Dyson I use in the house with us, pointless buying another one if there is a perfectly good one sitting at home doing nothing while you are away in the motorhome....

There wouldn't be much room left in the van if we took the house one with us!

We use a broom and then a dustpan set to sweep and clean the floor. Can't see the point in having a £250 cordless vacuum clean sat in the van doing nothing for 99.99% of it's life. When we get home we then vacuum the van properly with a corded 1200w unit (Karcher) that removes the dog hair, i have tried our home Dyson unit but it just doesn't have enough gumption to pick up do hair that is attached to fabrics, it does work well on tiled floors at home though and gets used every day (it's now 7yrs old).

For me: big vac or stay home:LOL:

Miele cleaner in the house is much too large heavy and clunky to store or use in the motorhome. Large floor heads won't get to most parts of the floor. And mains only so can't use it off grid where we are more likely to use it most. We pick up more dirt, grass etc on rally fields and Aires than we do in the few organised campsites we use.

The Dyson V6 sits in its charging holder which is attached to the garage wall and is permanently plugged into the 12V socket while we are away, so easy to reach and always available and charged up ready to use. No trailing cords in use as well makes it a doddle. It is even easy enough for me to use! ;)

And the other advantage is that we never forget to pack it.

Dyson V8, obviously when we're on EHU. Having said that I might just try it on the inverter socket later today.
