V5 registration document

Doubt much doing there mate . I have a brand new bike sitting in the garage right this minute , only got 5 mile on the clock , in fact it's so new , i haven't ridden it , to bloody cold . Yet the log book list's me as the second owner , the reason . Well it seem's the good ole eu strike's again , moved the goal post's , so they did . As of christmas last year , i'm unsure of the exact date , the law was changed in that all new vehicle's must now be pre- registered by the dealer . This in effect mean's that any new vehicle is effectively now , a second hand vehicle . Warranty's and mot requirement's are unaffected .
What you say regarding pre registered vehicles I find interesting as I can find no reference to this, I have asked a main dealer, Fiat, who tried to sell me a pre registered car but appeared not to be aware of any change in the law. Are you sure, I can well believe EU law going that way.

all new vehicle's must now be pre- registered by the dealer .
I thnk what that means is they can't sell a NEW vehicle without registering it first....to the new owner, not themselves.
In other words, you can't buy a new bike still in it's crate as supplied by the importer.

Yes it's taxed until December. Why they taxed it god knows. Will be in their name as the bike is preregistered. I'll be the 2nd owner.
I would reject it as used but advertised new

Also

You can't insure a vehicle NOT registered to you so if you're using it you're using it uninsured.

Urrrrrr well , no Pop's , that's not how it was explained to me mate . I was told it was aimed at the dealership's , they are not allowed to keep an unregistered vehicle on their premises , ie show room , which i kinda guess mean's any stock piled vehicle's as well . The result is the dealer would have to register the vehicle , to be able to keep and sell it , making the vehicle in effect second hand .
Now i know what your thinking , i've got that wrong , well my motorbike was a stock piled machine . It was shipped from stafford , to milton keynes where i picked it up a month ago . It's on a 67 plate , and list's the stafford dealer as a previous owner , don't actually bother me that much . What was more important was the price , less than a grand on the road with a rack and twin mirror's , i know it's new and that good enough for me . The 2018 model's , only have a 3 speed box , and retail at over a grand , plus on the road charge's . I wanted a 4 speed box , and have one of the last , registration plate gonna get changed anyway .

The following quote was posted as a reply to me asking if the dealer had pre registered their new van in the dealers name....

@pappajohn V5 says:

Previous keepers “none” so we are good. And apparently not been collected from the Factory yet so need to get it tomorrow as running out of time.

@Ashypants

Ours is only 3500kg so not as cheap as one over 3500kg but still cheaper than one taxed by emissions output from what I understand

What has been posted about dealers having to register in their company name before selling to the public is rubbish.....

Okay , well i've found where my information fall's flat , and it's due to the fact , i was not given the full information in the first place , so i concede the point .

I was wrong .

However there are circumstance's where a dealer will pre-register a vehicle , and as such does indeed make it a second hand vehicle . Now i'll be honest here , yes i was duped , however as i wanted this particular type of machine , it's brand new , and i got it for a good price , i'm still perfectly happy . In fact i'm more than happy , as it actually mean's , i didn't suffer the depreciation many people suffer with a new vehicle by driving it outta the showroom , i didn't pay full price in the first place , yet still have full warranty , and mot privileges . The fact remain's , the vehicle is new , and as i purchased the machine for my use , and not what it's gonna be worth in a few year's , it has very little , to no effect on me , personally .
I make no apology for the fact of not being a number plate chaser , it's gonna be changed shortly anyway , along with a few other bit's , when it's customised .

As for the new information i've gleaned , well i'm afraid i've decided to refrain from sharing , just in case i've still not got the full story .

Well I bought the bike mid December and STILL haven't received the Registration Document. I've been ringing the dealership every week or so, a salesman has left and nobody knows what's happened to it. I don't even know if the bike is in my name.

I don't want to fill in a v62 as a £25 charge is incurred if you don't have the new keepers slip. I know it's not a huge amount but Why should I? It's their responsibility to let dvla know they've sold the bike. (pre registered by the way, I'm the second owner)

So what can I do? Anybody have any ideas? I've emailed the DVLA but I don't expect any useful outcome of that. I'll probably get some kind of platitude the computer spits out.

Thanks for reading :)
I bought the new Triumph in October.. and reading this I realised I had not got the V5 either !!!
