Using the MH this weekend -4C predicted

Just starting to dip below zero here at Burrs Country Park CAMC site, van is a nice toasty 21 degrees and that’s with the internal door to the boot open to let some heat through! Our Wildax Elara panel van copes with Uk temperatures easily, never been winter skiing in it though …

Curious why fresh tank needs to be empty when travelling!

There is alway one isn't there.
Not really a choice missing a full English or cooking outside🤔🤔

Third choice is having the van smell of fried bacon all day☹️☹️

Anyway it’s a good way of torturing the other people on the site with the waft of English bacon and sausages sizzling away🤤🤤🤤

I'd rather go without the breakfast & stay warm, gone off cooked breakfasts anyway.

When I get old I may go like that😂😂😂
But for now breakfast cooked outside normally once a week when away come rain, shine or frost 😁😁

What's that all about, it makes the van unuseable.

Yes, Wildax put these on all their Elara’s, for the over 70’s downsizers it’s the only way to make the payload work I think. It’s only 330kg before extras! Ours is on a 4.1t. chassis with full vb rear suspension and we travel with a full 120 litres!

As others have said we find the motorhome toasty and warm. Compared to the house it’s easier to heat the space in the motorhome than the whole house.
We have had a couple of nights away when it’s been below zero. The first time in a badly insulated van with water pipes and pump touching the van walls. The filter housing on the pump split.
The second time in the current motorhome it only took a short time once the heating was put back on in the morning to get the water flowing again with no damage.
My sister recons we are hard cases because we don’t care what time of year we are away. We do draw the line when the roads are to bad to travel but being retired we just move the dates.

Our Burstner is so well insulated that the heat from the big dog keeps the place plenty warm enough

For info.
Our Burstner A class is on the drive.
It's a barmy(sic) 0degs. outside
As an exercise I've put the gas heater on at the min. setting

The result is that, after an hour, the temp. is now 8degs.

As said, for your info.
Update on the above.

At 10pm the temp was 6.5 degs

Hi all - we are visiting family this weekend in the MH and it’s predicted to get down to -4C where we are visiting. we have an Adria A Class with Alde heating. The water tank is stored inside the van just forward of the rear garage. I’m thinking that with the heating on all the time, this should be fine and keep the water from freezing? Also would you suggest that we keep the hot Water on all the time or not? Many thanks in advance.
Hi there - we go to the alps for skiing in our Adria Twin - never had any problems - assuming youre on EHU , we leave an electric oil radiator on tickover usually in anything up to -10 deg and never have had a problem - if it gets colder then we have the gas Truma heating on to supplement but always have an electric blanket on real low for sleeping - never had a problem we the on board water tank
cheers for now TC

If you using the van at night and warming it up for normal living, cooking etc, then it will be fine, Adrias are one of the better insulated MHs, so -4 won’t worry it.

guess a silver screen will be helpful….

Hi - yes it’s been very toasty, also have the fitted Silver Screen, which I am sure is a great help!

Great, thanks. We have had a small 600w oil rad on and it’s been great. Van has been toasty and we’ve had to turn the Alde heating down… 😅

Hi all

last few days on road in Dordogne have been around freezing overnight and -7C low 3 days ago. Van is 20yr old A Class Hymer

we leave heating and water on all the time when not moving. 22 and 15 at night. never an issue with anything freezing (other than doors) plenty icicles under van in mornings. We don’t half get through some LPG though.. :)

Aside from all the Verglas, the biggest problem in France at these temperatures is the services. The camper aire water taps that remain open are often frozen solid. We look for public loos for water, where it is generally left on.
