Hi

I’m having 4 new wheels fitted tomorrow before our trip to Europe on Friday.

I asked the garage who’s fitting the tyres fit metal valves (as I thought motorhome need those). However the garage said they don’t stock metal valves and that what they use will be fine.

Now im a bit worried especially with been over the eater weekend in France in those fail I’ll be stuck somewhere.

Can anyone recommend and send a link of Amazon where I can purchase this so I can get this across the garage to be fitted instead.

Thanks

how old are the existing metal valves and are they in poor condition?

if they are not that old and in good condition you could just replace the valve inner, thats what i did for my first tyre change as i had the same problem.

Be aware the local tyre fitter may not be be upto speed on the correct fitting of metal valves and that is a bigger risk of damaging the valve to wheel seals. when i eventually got mine changed for ones i had purchased and supplied one rim seal got damaged in fitting.

Not sure only had the Moho for 1 year and the tyres are 7 year old

Most mobile tyre fitters have them on board . Its a requirement for anything of a load greater than 5 tonne normally. Most of us who have motorhomes will have the rubber coated steel inner valves fitted. If you prefer the steel full bodied versions then they are quite expensive but available again from the tyre companies who supply every one and any one normally.Just a question of who you are dealing with really. Ours were fitted on the drive by Halfords....They removed the valves i had fitted for the reinforced ones similar to those from Amazon but to be honest...german in design. Not sure what amazon ones are?

Just found this....Its what we had

The recommendation for rear tyre pressures on my Fiat Ducato, silly as it may sound, is 79psi ?!!!

No non-metallic valve is going to stand up to that especially under heavy 'holiday' loads.

The images shown in the link are like nothing I have seen before ?

If I was going with a first change of tyres, from new, I would stick with the metal valves that were already in place, and maybe change the Schrader valve cores ?

Maybe even buy my own, new ones, on line, and ask the tyre fitting outfit to fit those ?

best practice is metal, but there are non metal valves that go to 100 psi. they have a metal core.
Our Adria Twin is fitted with non metal valves.
I assume they have a metal core as they feel quite rigid. I was a bit surprised to discover this to be honest but I can only assume that they are the correct high pressure type.

If they have a brass core that sticks out above the rubber they are high pressure valves.
My new van came with those on the front and full metal ones on the rear.

I have just had a set of new tyres fitted. I asked about fitting metal valves (having read it on here) and the manager said we only have rubber ones and came with me to check our existing tyres and valves. She flipped the valve with her finger (it was all wobbly) and said , ours the same as, so I thought fair enough!
Changed Continental vanco for Falken allseason van 11 and very pleased.
The senior fitter did the changes and was so careful. Down on his hands and knees instructing junior where to place trolley jack so nothing underneath damaged. After balancing and fitting, studs torqued up by hand not with one of those airgun things.
All done in Spain with google translate.
