Uprating etc..

The Maxi chassis comes in 2 versions, the 'light' which has 15" steel wheels as standard and the 'heavy' which has 16" wheels - our PVC is built on the XLWB heavy Maxi so for us it was a paper exercise to uprate from 3500kg to 4250kg with no modification at all so our payload has gone up from 500kg to 1250kg. We could have gone up to 4500kg if we'd done some mods however what we now have is more than sufficient!!!!

these weights are a mystery to me, and the apparent fact that rapido are notorious for lack of payload because our 2007 7097f is still just inside the 3500 weight fully loaded. Even with our scooter in the garage have checked many times both axle and total always ok. I will admit we are carefull to take nothing we dont need or use.

The Maxi does. 4250 I believe.

The standard Fiat chassis even on an Al-Ko only goes to 3850.
Not gonna be a standard fiat chassis if it's Al-Ko. But it should have the Maxi running gear i.e. 16" wheels and larger brakes etc.

16" wheels.
You should have 2 or 3 plates on the van, a Fiat one under the bonnet, a Rapido one could be anywhere and an Al-Ko one under the bonnet if Al-Ko chassis.
Need to know whats on them.

I think you are on a maxi chassis as I don't think Fiat have offered 16" wheels on a light chassis until the X290, so should be able to upgrade.

Hi Dave @ShiftZZ last time I saw you you told me you had lost 3 stone,:)It's time you used the equipment in the gym -not just go to it ;)
How long have you had the van ? why are you suddenly asking about weights? it never bothered you or anyone else for that matter :DIgnorance is bliss (y) By asking a simple question on how much the van weighs you have opened a very big can of worms :LOL:Put it to the back of your mind at once

The Alko heavy measures 260mm deep and can be found with 15" wheels but the weight capability will depend also on what rating of axle was fitted to it. My axle has its own weight label.

Right you lot, (@Terry just you wait till @The Happy Hooker catches up with you)

Anyhow,

Been to the van and I think I'm ok.

Thoughts?

Is PTRA the max payload on this van?

poids maxi essieu avant = Max front Axle Weight 1850kg
poids maxi essieu arriere = Max rear Axle weight. 2120kg

Combined.
3970kg..

Am I right?

no its the trainweight .
3850 is your max gvw .
as others have said the front axle load and the back axle load usually or should add up to more than the gvw to allow loading or unloading and weight transfer.so really there is no 3970. its make believe .

Looking at the axle weights it looks like you should be able to upgrade to 3970kg as a paper exercise. Need to get it onto a weighbridge and check axle weights fully loaded as if you are already near the rear axle limit you won't gain anything. Again depending on the chassis it may be possible to get a higher rear axle loading by changing the tyres any maybe fitting air assist.

5500 is the gtw.

Axle weights do not always total gvw, my Hymer has a gvw of 3500 kg with front and back axles at 2000kg.
When I had my last Hymer downplated by SVTech to 3500kgs they left the axle weights the same as when plated at 3850kgs.

when down plating the axles stay the same , they havent changed ,
thats why sometimes its so easy to up plate . the factory very often only do a number of high chassis and axles then down plate some to suit the orders .
it really is a confusing world we live in .

there's one important point, dont forget the max tyre/load pressure on Mich' Agilis 15" camping tyres is a MAX of 80psi at a load of 112......if you are running weights at very near the maximum of your vehicle your tyre pressures will be running at near max pressure ...no reserve.......

You can't assume a 15" is 112 you must check it says that as only the 225 wide is a 112.
It is actually only the load index figure that is important as this can vary between manufacturers for a given tyre size.
Of course as you said the loading figure is quoted at the maximum pressure on the side wall

So its important when changing tyre brand from those fitted on manufacture that they meet the same load index figure

They cam back and said that it was 3700
Thats with a full tank of LPG 1/2 a tank of diesel 1/2 fresh water. and nthing else...

Thats a worry,150kg for fuel and everything else..

Whole vehicle 3140kg (1/3 tank of fuel, plus 22kg of lpg)
Front axle 1420 kg
Rear 1700kg

Plated Front 1850 Rear 2210 Total 3850

So, I have 710kg's to play with..

So any weight quoted by the MOT brake tester is a complete waste of time?
I suspect its because the brake tester is below floor level and the van will always be pointing UP or DOWN when its tested.

I had a motorcycle weighed on a MOT brake tester last month and that seemed to be a lot heavier than I thought it ought to be.

I went back to the garage they were not happy as they had paid £200 two weeks ago to be calibrated...
