Hi all
Wanting to upgrade the radio on our
2012 boxer
The dash has 2 slots one for radio and 1 above thats a little compartment.
Can both be removed to fit larger unit and has anyone done this?

Radios (and media centres) are referred to as Single DIN or Double DIN which relate to the number of 'slots'

You can usually cut away the centre easy enough as Lenny HB points out or alternatively you can go for a single DIN with screen that retracts back into the 'slot'when not in use. So you end up with a larger unit/screen but still retain the little compartment, which allows you to replace the original radio and transfer the new radio if you wanted to.

Cutting away the centre bit also gives you more access to get your hand in and connect cables a bit easier ....

Ours is a Fiat Ducato, but I’m assuming it’ll be more or less the same.👍

If you look closely, you can see where the piece separating the two compartments has been cut out, making one large aperture.

Originally my van came with the two compartments.👍

This similar to yours?

If you are trying to get a better radio reception by updating your radio, you may be disappointed, not sure where the aerial is in a 2012 Boxer but in a 2017 it's in the nearside mirror and with mirror guards fitted our Pioneer Avtec is useless (for radio, satnav brilliant). There are several threads on here covering aerials.

When you fit first upgrade did it fit perfect with bezel covering where old radio fitted?
Yes, the bezel on the head unit is curved as the original Boxer unit.
On the new Tesla type I fitted, the unit fits on the front of the dash radio housing, but still follows the curvature.

Bezel normally comes with the mounting kit and you can buy different bezels, you can get ones that curve onto the top of the dash just depends on how much you want to spend, once fitted they all look fine.

Just used the plain square one on mine it either came with the radio or fitting cradle can't remember which.

I have both Copilot and Sygic as well as Google maps loaded on at present plus the likes of P4N, SforS etc.

Different seller, but the same unit, I went for the top spec one.

I need one for a 2019 fiat Ducato, I assume same size and shape but potentially different wiring adapter. I will do a search, thanks for the info.

I bought both of mine from China via Aliexpress which is cheaper and both arrived within 10 days,

............... but if you prefer to buy for a UK based seller, then have a hunt on eBay.
Check what you are buying has a reasonably fast processer and an amount of RAM and ROM so it's not to sluggish.

Hi Bobby daisy
Why did you swap from the first you fit to the second?
And how did the first perform?

Hi Bobby daisy
Why did you swap from the first you fit to the second?
And how did the first perform?

I think that your question was aimed at me rather than Bobby daisy?

Two reasons really, firstly the new one is a faster processor, has more memory and is a newer version of Android.
Secondly, the larger screen and the screen not being inset on the unit gives me much more visibility of the navigation screen when driving which means I only need a quick glance at the screen now and spend more time concentrating on driving.

The first was fine as it was a good specification at the time I bought it but newer ones are now faster as technology advances and we want things to happen instantly with computers.

I posted links to both units that are currently available on post #20 of this thread.

If you are interested, I still have the first unit that I swapped out a few weeks back and have not got around to listing in the classified yet. You can have it for £60 plus the postage at cost if you want it. PM me if you are interested.

Does it come with the curved bezel?

Does it come with the curved bezel?

Yes, it is all integral to the unit, comes with two types of wiring harnesses and a canbus unit for steering wheel controls if you have them.

How do I pm you?

I'll PM you and you can then reply to my PM.

Mine came with a ISO connectors, did yours not?
If you need a cable identification chart then I'll lookout the small booklet that came with my Tesla type unit.
