I came through on Thursday via a night at Montreuil Sur Mer. We had to contend with many flooded roads and a partially flooded campsite but once we were back on the motorway we were fine to Calais and the Shuttle, despite an alarming warning that flashed up on our phones the moment we crossed into the Pas de Calais.

That’s where we were. I can read signs and map coordinates. Perhaps we aren’t as fussy as you lot. It felt rock solid and after 5 hours of driving in torrential rain and strong winds it looked like tarmac in amongst the enormous puddles but I’m not going to stake my life on it Lenny! It was barely light when we left to catch the early ferry home.

There were about 10 other vans there as well.
Yes exactly we were the same on Friday it was horrendous driving in the floods roads blocked diversions sending us under too low bridges we eventually got a place not far from calais for ferry the next day we were just pleased to be parked and safe I couldn't have gave a monkeys what kind of ground it was tarmac gravel or carpeted we just got the gin out and finally relaxed

Okay, I've been watching the French news (8 o'clock here) and the area in the Pas de Calais area is, by all accounts, the worst affected, St Omer, Calais itself, and several villages around Boulogne being mentioned. At lunchtime, Gravelines and Dunkirk were also mentioned, but I wasn't in time to hear the full report

There are orange flood warnings also for Vendee (85), Charente Maritime (17), Haute-Savoie (74) and Savoie (73).

The latest information is that many more départements have been declared "at risk" (orange warning), with Pas de Calais extremely seriously affected (red warning). The general advice seems to be - if you must travel, then stay on the major highways where possible, elsewhere, be extremely vigilant.

To give an indication of the amount of rain we, in the Haute Vienne, have had recently, I have a 1000 litre container in which we collect rainwater and we have accumulated approx 225 litres in just 26 hours from our (average sized) garage roof.
