Yes, I already found it. Thank you :)

It's not because I'm not listening. It's because you haven't provided any proof that this actually happens :)

Life in France is not always about 'Rules and Regulations', its' about the way the person ln authoritiy decides how they wish to interpret them and how you subsequently interact with them. The 'French' are a very practible people, you can get away with a lot more in France than you would be able to do in the UK in similar circumstances. It all comes down to attitude.

Hopefully, you will not be put in a position where you need to exchange your UK licence but if you are , play the game, and use it to your advantage like everybody else does but don't go around guoting Article 50 and the Withdrawal Agreement it will get you no where only opposition.

Thank you. However, I cannot be made to change my UK licence, though, because of the WA. Are you saying you were made to change your licence?
Here is a link that covers exchanging your uk licence to a french one after committing a traffic offence. I quote:-

The exchange of your driving license for a French license is mandatory in the following 3 cases:

The validity of your license has expired
You are requesting a new license category (extension)
You commit a traffic offense in France resulting in a loss of points, a restriction, a suspension, or a cancellation of your license

I hope this puts your mind at rest at last...and you can get on an up-plate your van.

I may be wrong, but I think you may find that it is not possible to deviate from the manufacturer's original specification. Reason for saying that is I asked the Fiat Commercial garage in Ruffec to get me a set of 16inch wheels to replace the 'OEM' 15 inch wheels. They said no problem, but advised strongly against changing them as the vehicle would no longer be as per the Certificate of Conformity.

I imported a Morgan, complete with C of C, which was referred by the Prefecture to DRIA, not an experience I would wish to repeat.

Good Luck

Robert
That sounds familiar. A relative imported an old MG into France from the USA but couldn't get it registered because the engine had been changed. The problem was it wasn't a like for like swap, it was a different engine with a different capacity.

And absolutely no hope with a Japanese import
