Hi all, we will be in Spain for the month of May and would like to have data available, our mobile provider, sky will charge £2 per day roaming charge to use our existing data, text, WhatsApp etc, as we will be there for 31 days, that's 62 quid, and maybe extra data charges.
So what's the best way of using phone in Spain, should l buy a sim card just for our trip that has no roaming charges and plenty of data, all we want data for is, emails, text messages WhatsApp just to keep in touch with the kids and grandkids, occasionally use of apps, to locate lpg stations etc.
Been looking at the superdrug £20 sim with unlimited data, but any suggestions greatly appreciated, won't be streaming TV or anything like that

Take a look at Giffgaf. We’re in French at the moment and as far I know nothing has change.

Further to my post above, you shouldn’t need much more data than this for your stated requirements (unless you want to watch tv etc), but can change plan if required.

For those people visiting France it is worth investigating Free.fr www.mobile.free.fr €19.99 for unlimited calls, text & data. Can also be used in the UK but data capped at 25Gb. As per French law you have to send a registered letter to them to cancel but that is not difficult with Google Translate and there are sample letters on the web if you search "Cancel Free.fr". They cancel on the day they receive it and give a pro-rata refund back to the card. You can buy a sim in an automatic machine in Tabacs in many supermarket complexes, all listed on their site. I have been using them for the past three years both France and UK and am very happy with their coverage.

Yes but you are only allowed 20gb roaming and 64 days in 4 months. There are no daily fees for roaming.
If you are not streaming then how much data do you need? 20gb should be perfectly adequate for the odd few emails and WhatsApp

My Vodophone account was for 100 gb
But when abroad you are only allowed 25 gb per month
In the small print
I am using a Spanish Vodafone SIM, pre-paid (Prepago), 100GB for 20 euro. Lasts for 28 days. Renew whenever you want, I just renewed mine, having not used it since November. If you are a heavy user, and use it all in say 3 days, you can just pay another 20 euro for another 100GB.

I use the Spanish SIM in a wifi router, and set my UK phone to wifi calling. I phone/message using WhatsApp, so it goes via the wifi. However my usual SIM is still in my phone, so I can be contacted in emergency. Also being an EU SIM it works in any EU country with no roaming complications. I'm in France just now, and the Spanish SIM is working fine.

Hi,

This is the option we are going to use in France… from experience when in France can you use your phone to tether to an iPad with EE?

When in the UK we turn on tethering on the iPhone and the iPad happilly uses the iPhone data and I want to do similar abroad …
From experience you can.
