Under the sea and far away.

Have you got Angles Morts stickers on your van Richard ?
No.
Printed a set at home, laminated them and put strips of double sided tape on and then hid them in a plain brown envelope in a locker.
If push comes to shove and an awkward gendarme insists we have them they will magically appear and be fitted…….and probably removed when we get around the corner.
Will you stand bail to get me out of a French jail if I need it…….please? :Eeek:

'M'sieu le Gendarme. J'arrive pour payer un depot pour mon ami, Clarky ... Non, pas 'Clarky le garcon du pile', c'etait 'Torchy the Battery Boy'. C'est combien? €1200? Desolé! J'ai quelques pieces, un petit moment. svp.[5 seconds plus tard]

'€1.85? Vous avez confiance a moi? Vous me connaisez ... Voici mon photo au dessus votre pupitre ...' Oops

Steve ['Hello, Clarky, tried my best. Didn't expect to be joining you in the cell ....]

Saw some that were put on the inside of the windows and held on by blue tack today.
Rear one was blue tacked as well.
Leave the rear one on and open windows when/if gendarmes stop you. A photo of them in place and point out to gendarme that you wish to report a theft of 3 signs might get you off as well !

We left our perch on the bank of the Seine this morning and have headed south and are now pretty much dead centre of France at Sancoins.
'Tis a tad warm at 34°C but we won’t complain as we’ve been moaning about the grey and chilly U.K. for weeks.
Quite a long drive as we tend to do shorter hops from place to place these days.
We cut out the slow and ‘Micky Mouse' bits by using the peage for some longer stretches, just don’t tell Lenny HB , he’ll have a fit.
It did make a nice easy drive though at a decent average speed.
I think we’re going to chill (in this heat???) for a couple of days before moving further south.

I'm sure some of you will recognise this view from the free aire. ( Do I get some brownie points back now Lenny?)

Thanks Richard

Favourite of ours and a regular - 3 times to date.

I like those Aires where one parks nose to tail and side-on to a canal/river/lake. It gives much more privacy and good views.

We are a bit jealous of you lot in France, but we will be in our MH on my favourite island in Greece on Friday evening so we cannot complain

Geoff

Edit: Thanks for the second photo too.

Looks like our run of lovely weather is about to end.
Been watching the clouds build from the south west and they’re now getting much darker. Lots of rumbling in the distance which is gradually getting louder.
Still sitting out in shorts as it’s still hot but it’s getting more humid.
South through the rain tomorrow and hopefully we soon get out the other side of the grot.

Lovely weather by the blue dot !

The weather has broken here, at Chateauneuf sur Loire. We've been on a lovely, Loire-side pitch at the municipal Camping de la Maltournée (€16 acsi) for 2 days.
It's been hot and 🌞 sunny , but there was thunder in the night and we've woken to a misty morning over the Loire.
We're heading generally south, but don't have to be home until the end of October, so can be flexible.
We may end up in Gruissan, in a week or so.
Looking at the various weather apps, it seems as though there will be unsettled weather across France, at least for the next few days, so we'll probably continue on our route towards
the A75.

Thunder storms all around us yesterday evening, lots of rumbling and flashing in the sky, but nothing overhead. Just one or two very brief showers but by the time we’d closed the door and roof lights the rain had stopped.
A quiet night with no rain but this morning it poured down. By the time we were ready to leave Sancoins it was just a few spots so a quick shop at the supermarket round the corner, fill with diesel and on the road.
We are now parked high above the A75 near the Chapelle Sainte-Madeleine overlooking Massiac.
The rain has gone, for now, and the sun is out.
Further south tomorrow.

We're in the southern most extremity of France. Parked up at an aire on the road to Font Romeu. Last night, about 45 km away we had a brilliant storm. This morning was sunny, with low mist, and now it's just raining! Rain is OK, we don't like hail!

Tomorrow, we're expecting a full day of rain. Tomorrow we'll know if the forecast is correct!

I deffo recognised it first time but you said you had moved on to canal de Berry , which I thought you'd be at Drevant aire.
Hi Richard , confession time , my mistake I thought you had moved on from La Mailleraye , to the canal de berry . All the times we've stayed there , I didn't know that , that canal was canal de berry . feel a bit of a plonker now .

The Canal de Berry is something like 230km long. Lots and lots of places to stop alongside I think.
Sancoins is just one of many.
I looked up the history of it the other day, thanks Wikipedia, and it was used up until the 1950s.

Richard.

You’re two thirds of the way (in France) there now, Richard. Tonight’s stop above Massiac is one that I was going to try following somebody mentioning it some time ago. Looks an amazing stopover. Need to get the correct exit from the roundabout otherwise one could end up going north on A75🙀. Keep the pictures coming. David.

I am thoroughly enjoying this thread. Particularly the Canal de Berry. We are heading off next week from Calais across to Epernay for a few nights then, we will be looking for a few stops in places en-route to Montmorillon way. Many thanks to all posters. 👍

Well done Robert. (y)
Turbo mode or not that must have been a heck of a climb.
Were you accompanied by the better half?

Finally, after over a week away we’ve made it to Gruissan. :france:🌞
The aire is quite full so we weren’t able to get a 'prime' sea view pitch but we will be ready and in our starting blocks when someone leaves in the morning.
Arrived to sun with a little light high cloud but just had a short shower while having a late lunch.
25°C outside so lovely and warm. Might stay for a while.

Do you reckon the big bus based RV in the corner is a permanent fixture ?

Funny you should ask that as just a moment ago we had commented that the RV wasn’t here.
It was here 18 months age when we were last here but now gone.
