UK sticker

I have Polish registration but I would also like to put a GB sticker on the MH

Anyone got an old GB sticker to donate? - I will pay postage
I’ve got one. Happy for you to have it. PM me your postal address. No need to pay postage.

You may find that these GB stickers will become collectors items after a while.
Like mine...........

Perhaps the Union Jack is a giveaway. In France this summer, I was asked if I was from Ukraine. Only had the oval but no markings on numberplate.

If we had it in French, it would be Royaume-Uni. I'm not sure I want an RU sticker.
We also got asked if we were Ukrainian

I have one attached to the van does that mean the whole van could become a collector's item, it near vintage now

To be honest the first time I saw a UK' sticker, I also thought the car was from Ukraine.

Robert
Sadly, if there was not a war going on Ukraine would probably not cross people's minds

I bought a UK sticker off eBay which stuck on well enough but the UK slowly disappeared, I think it was printed with a poor quality printer
Happened to me too, and a pain to get off too. I got a uk from halfords in the end so at least if yesterday fades I can take it back.

How do you spot a dyslexic? When reads GB as Bulgaria BG.
Same as UK for westerners. Most east Europeans knows UA is for Ukraina.

Got a plain oval UK sticker and a plain number plate. Minimalist, neat, not promoting anything, nor trying to make a statement. Typically British, one might say!

I do find the Angela Mort stickers stupid and ugly, Currently, despite towing a trailer, I don't need them as my bus is 3500kg (I have had this confirmed by a helpful Monsieur in the French Government).

If I up-plate to 3850kg, I will probably still not stick them on, as it then gives a clue to Les Gendarmes that my max speed should be 90kmph, not 130kmph. I quite often do drive at about 90, but on the A26 race to Calais, you do sometimes need a tad more right pedal.

I haven’t bothered changing plates. I still have the old EU/GB plate and GB sticker. Been on continent near 2 months, parked next to Gendarmes and Police, passed by douanes and all were disinterested. While it is plain fact that the UK is no longer part of the EU and vehicles therefore should no longer display the symbol, the mandating of the change from GB to UK was entirely driven by UK government, presumably in hope of making one half of Northern Ireland feel a little less angry about the new border - however I’d risk venturing that most unionists would consider that a poor trade..

I don’t plan to change anything on my old EU /GB plated van until it needs new plates or is re-registered or sold. I am however keen on hearing from anyone who has not changed the identifiers and has had any issue anywhere in Europe (or even UK) with enforcement agencies for still displaying either EU symbol and GB on the plates or GB sticker?

I am aware that laws in any country states that any vehicle must comply with all legal requirements of the country in which it is registered - just interested if any enforcement agency anywhere can be bothered to try to enforce. It’s probably only a matter of time before a police officer takes issue with a vehicle from a non EU country displaying an EU symbol. If a betting man I’d say it would happen first in Germany!

I don't think the Gendarmes are interested whether it is UK, or a GB sticker on your motorhome. However, an 'older car' sporting a GB sticker and UK number plates is likely to be pulled - over for a document check. There are still some naughty people here driving round on British plates who are now classed as 'illegal' residents and the authorities are begining put the squeese on them. Road side checks is just one of their ways,

Hello Robert, thanks for the comment. The matter of resident Brits still driving around France in their UK registered cars post Brexit is a different subject, and one also of much interest to me, given we are planning to permanently relocate there and I wish to bring my little collection of cars.

I’ve posted in a motoring forum I’m a member of (pistonheads) on what the options may be, ie would it be possible to leave my cars UK registered as so many were able to do for so long pre Brexit and the conclusion was clearly that it was just way much risk as it would be very illegal and potentially disastrous in event of accident (invalid insurance, prosecution and seizure). I don’t know why anyone would take that risk.

Hence, once we have bought something (though no hurry, our tricked out camper is surprisingly comfortable), I look forward to the pleasure of going through the import and registration process for my little collection of cars and bikes, which is going to be fun as a couple are ‘modified’ and one is 43 years old. I’ve spent a fortune before even starting the import process just for the Certificates of Conformity. Even got one for the camper, £100 direct from Hymer. One will cost best part of 10k to immatriculate due to the ‘puissance fiscal’.. However as we need to get French residence we can’t afford to fall foul of the law so have to do it right.

For all those still running around in UK registered cars (and yes I’ve seen loads) I guess they must all be confident of no pull and no accident as from all I could deduce, a UK registered car becomes uninsured once beyond 3months in EU, and those old policies allowing one to insure a UK car long term in EU are no longer available.

I’d be very interested to hear from anyone on this forum who has direct experience of bringing cars over long term legally or otherwise, especially classics. Might start another thread on the subject, however it’s not a very motorhomey subject :)

Maybe......but since we kicked Brussels into touch we have to use them.
Why they can't accept UK is anyone's guess, maybe a petty bit of payback for leaving.
I think you’ll find that it was us not the EU that insisted on the change from GB, another one of Boris’s unnecessary vanity projects like the blue passport!

You may be right, but wasn't there also something to do with Ireland?

and I can confirm after two months of driving around in France with old GB stickers and old style GB/EU plates that the French authorities could not care less.

In my opinion the EU were trying with Blairs assistance to split the UK up (devolved assemblies) so any reference to a United Kingdom now we have left may stick in their craw :)

utter nonsense from someone that has been reading the daily mail too long. Novice indeed.

You may be right, but wasn't there also something to do with Ireland?
Yes, it was to do with Ireland - Northern Ireland to be precise. Originally it was a case of "Great Britain and Northern Ireland" and the old GB sticker was taken to include "and Northern Ireland" bit. Then for various reasons (I'm sure none of which were remotely politically motivated or shabby attempts to show that something was working) we (or rather the govt at the time) decided that henceforth it would be UK. So much more inclusive after all and a blunt stick in the eye of any would be nationalists in those irritating little countries that form the rest of the "union".

PS apologies for the poor attempt at satire . . .

Apologies accepted Tbub49 by someone from one of those irritating not so little countries, within our union! Yes, such comments do help greatly to bind our united nations!

dawsey is entirely correct. The legislation regarding UK number plates is enacted by our government not the EU. Having finally taken delivery of our new van in March, I was surprised to find fitted with non compliant 22 plate with the union flag and GB. To comply with our legal requirements I will need a UK sticker.

You read this sort of thing and you just despair! Unless it was a an attempt at satire?
It may explain how we have arrived at this sorry state.
