HI All
Had a read through some tyre posts and just as confused as I was at the start. Some folk don't seem to like the Michelin Agilis Camping which is what's on my van now.
The van is a Hymer tramp 15 plate and I just found out the tyres are dated 2013 so were two yrs old when the van was registered and sold new it looks like. The tyres are showing signs of slight cracking on the sidewalls now but I would be replacing them at that age anyhow.

What to go for though?
I initially thought, fit the same but not so sure. The previous owner was happy with them despite them being a summer tyre as I've also just found out. I thought it would make more sense to fit all season?
Any recommendations

Be careful what tyre suppliers you use as you might get caught for import charges, just check all charges are included.

I got mine from Tyre leader they are based in Andorra the tyres came from Germany (was last September). Openo often ship from Germany and Poland same with Mytyres.

I'm getting befuddled by it all. I called Tyres direct online as recommended be Phil D but they don't have my size in stock of Toyo.
I Don't know if I can be bothered buying mail order and getting a fitter as I have limited room here at home to store tyres and no garage. I suppose I could arrange to meet the fitter at the storage place. I'm more inclined to just get them fitted at my local Halfords to save the hassle but will be paying more. I'll just have to accept that.

Must be an independent tyre fitter locally or a mobile tyre fitter that can meet you at the storage?

I don't think I'm likely to use my van in the winter,so looking at fitting summer tyres. Have got it down to Toyo Nano Energy or Nexen Rodian, if I was going for a winter tyre I was looking at the Nexen Winguard. Currently got Michelin Agilis Alpin's but they are now 6 years old and have'nt moved much in the last 2 years. I'm also going to up the load rating to 113. Opinions please ?

We removed Agilis's from our 15 plate A class tag axle...ours were also cracking and one was starting to bulge as well.... i have installed Nexen Roadian CT8 commercial tyres... stronger than the Michelins with higher ply and load ratings.... myself and the fitter compared them side by side when we changed them over and it was very apparent how much more substantial the construction of the Nexen's were....since having them i have already done one trip to the Algarve and back (usually twice a year) and i have to say i am seriously impressed with the quality and ride from them.... Oh and with six to change saved myself £450 into the bargain.... however even if the same price i would still choose the Nexen's next time as well..

Whatever tyres you get just make sure they’re the correct load rating. When it comes to MOT time they will fail it regardless of tread depth / condition. The ones I had to get for my tag axle cost me £1200. I will say I always go for premium brands when it comes to tyres and brakes.

Thanks everyone. I'll have a look through this later. Going to pick up an awning from previous owner today. Vango Galli 2 with all the extras :giggle:
Great awning choice hogger, we practically lived in ours when we went for a longer journey to Spain (those were the days) and we had a VW campervan. It did us a great job and acts like a little bungalow. We had our inner room as a loo tent , ( no. 1’s only) Just requesting that you take a video of you getting it back into the bag!.:giggle::giggle:
Can give you some tips if u need them

I’am going up from 110/108 to 113.

I have Michelin argilis camper,, no problems with them....just to let you know,, they are reinforced at the sides and high pressure up to 80psi...Michelin recommend metal valves because of the high pressure....as normal ones are not suitable.

When I uprated my tyres following a weight increase, and as I was planning a German Christmas Markets trip, I was recommended to use Continental Vanco Winter 2, mainly because of size/rating availability.

Never had a problem, excellent ride, quiet and reasonable wear - we do a lot of miles so they wear out before being age-restricted and anyway using them regularly reduces the risk of cracking etc. Have used them in all sorts of conditions from snow in Norway to the Sahara Desert. Have been excellent on soft and wet grass surfaces.

If I've got one reservation it's that, being winter tyres, they tend to heat up a bit more than "regular" tyres, never been a problem but I had to reset the Tyrepal for higher pressures and just keep an eye on them. If the pressure gets silly I just reduce speed for a while. Or stop for a cuppa, we're never in a rush!

Best deal has always been with Kwikfit - just have to travel a little further to get them fitted because my closest Kwikfit's doors don't go high enough to get in the fitting bay.

Interesting I'll have a look at those I don't remember seeing them

I'll pay attention to how it looks coming out of the bag. It does look a tight fit. I got the full size Galli 2 RSV tall rather then the compact. It came with the sky liner thing, a carpet and a roll of LED lights. He also gave me a set of corkscrew pegs you use a drill with if needed.
Our trip is two weeks at the end of june and broken down by nights 2,3,5,1 and the last stop is 3 I think so should be able to make good use of it

I just looked and they require proof of a trade i.e. mechanic or related trades or payslip from employer or city and guilds certificate or business card.

They say that but when I went to the store to pick up my card they just looked up their email and gave me a card.
Easy to make a card on your PC.

The salient issue is the weight capacity as printed on the tyre.
First is on a single axle configuration, second in twin wheel configuration.
(107 / 109)
Continental argue as do Michelin that camper tyres are designed to run constantly at the top loadings. As motorhome applications are predominantly at or over maximum axle loadings.
However when quizzing Hankook technical they assured me that they mark the true max load the tyre is capable of, either occasionally or long term.
I changed my fronts to Hankook and rears to Continental at the same time after three years Continentals both cracked, to there credit refunded in full the purchase. Replacement were Hankook.
About to change the fronts as five years old possibly half worn. No cracks or deterioration at all.
Not quite half the price however in my view a much better tyre for the application

Tyres bought, I plumped for the Nexen Rodian CT8 after Garry - June recommended them. Bought them from Camskill and bought 7 as I'm changing the spare,it's the original from 2011 but never been used.

They are a Commercial Vehicle tyre, hence the C rating. Michelin use the term ‘Camping’ and Continental use ‘Camper’ It appears to be a marketing ploy because as you say it’s all really about load rating.
Continental recommended the 4Season to me because of the size/rating I needed, which wasn’t covered by their ‘Camper’
My Hymer S650 is too heavy for any "Camper" tyre so it has Continental Commercial C rating as above. Agreed its all a marketing ploy but when you get down to the load rating you actually need for your vehicle the specific camper tyres all fall by the wayside if you are running at 4.6 tonnes gross like mine. My tyres are rated for my Mercedes Sprinter 416 chassis running at maximum gross weight, so I would always stick to commercials over camper.

Anyone know why there are 4 versions of Hankook Vantra LT RA18 tyres on THIS site? I can see the ones with SBL have different lettering but no idea why the price differs so much, of if they are the same tyre even.

Could it be age related?
