I’ve currently got C rated on front of mine but need replacing. Looking at Kumho or Yokohama or Maxxis Campro. Currently fitted with budget Fullway Front type C (never heard of them) but actually drive well and brake well in the wet and Michelin XC Camping tyres on the back but showing signs of age. Thinking of C type all round. Load rating for the C and CP tyres 109/107 with a front axle rating of 1750kg and a rear axle rating of 1900kg, so C tyres should be fine MH Max Weight is 3400kg. Cannot see any difference in going for CP other than stiffer side walls. I’ve been running 65/68psi front and 70/75psi rear.

Have a look at 225/70 15 R there might be a bigger choice and they will fit your rims
Um never thought of that. It’s a 52 plate Ducato base x244. No 225/70 option shown in the Ducato handbook but will take a look.

Just make sure you have 6J rims if you go to 225/70 15, we upsized and got greater comfort through lower pressures and and an increase in load capacity. (Falken All season Van 11’s)

I went 225 instead of 215 on the front tyres of our previous Hymer. The only time I had a problem was on full right or left lock, whereupon the tyres did contact the wheel ach liners, but only briefly. Just be aware.

Cheers,

Jock. :)

From the Ducato handbook all rims are 6j apparently. They don’t mention 225 width tyres.

I’m tempted to stick with 215 C rated tyres as they are well within the axle weights and MH is only 3400kg on the plate.

My Peugeot Boxer came with Bridgestone Duravis tyres when new 12 years ago and as they are a premium brand and have been very good I’ve stuck with them and they are 215/70 R15.
I’ve changed them once 7 years ago and have just changed them again but gone for Bridgestone Duravis Allseason ones, these have the 3 peaks symbol which will be handy for the drive through France to Spain in January.

On my previous x250 I went from 215 to 225 on R15 as there was more tyre choice. They had a slightly larger rolling diameter, which made the speedo under read a little less. It got me higher load ratings, but I didn't really need it. It meant I could run lower pressures and get a more comfortable ride. The wider and higher rating tyres were heavier though. Combined with the larger diameter, it made the van feel slightly more sluggish to accelerate.

I think if I had the bigger engine I could justify it, but with only the 2.0 engine the bigger tyres might be an issue as the MH isn’t exactly quick off the mark already.
