Tyrepal playing me up

The front left sensor has started playing up. For the last week or so, it takes an age to show up after starting off, or refuses to show up at all, resulting in an annoying alarm bleep every few miles. Two days ago it worked fine, yesterday nothing. I've had the system 2 or 3 years and never had problems before.

I removed the troublesome sensor and checked the battery with a meter. It's giving the correct 3V. Now I'm stumped.

Any ideas peeps?

Replace the battery anyway and use a decent make, not a cheapo as if it still does it then you will need a new sensor but need to rule out the obvious first.

Ddidn't think there'd be a problem with a battery that's giving the full 3V?

it's the only thing you can replace that won't cost you a lot of money and sure there should be no issue, but i have seen issues with cheapo batteries when under load they don't work as expected. The alternative is to replace the sensor, which will be a lot more money

I think now you have checked the battery voltage is OK, check the contacts are OK dry, not corroded, and the rubber seal is OK, all you can do is order a new sensor as its obviously not sending a signal strong enough to be picked up by the monitor.
I find they are a pain to remove and replace when I top up the air pressure in the tyres, I need to order some more seal rubbers as they tear when I peel them back, and I do have a stock of the batteries, which I change after a couple of years of use.
To me Its a bit like a clock battery, the battery still powers the clock, but it runs a few minutes slow every week until it fails, so I just replace them, same as on the tyre sensor sending a slightly weak signal, albeit reading 3V its not under load off the sensor. Well thats my rational anyhow, and I hate taking them off & on more than I need to.
Good luck with it, hope you get it sorted out to stop those annoying false alarms.

3v is the nominal voltage. A fresh new cell should be 3.2 - 3.3 volts and a button cell is dead at 2.8v.
With using a multi-meter you are not measuring the cell voltage under load where there may be a voltage drop.

Thanks guys. I will replace the battery. That was actually going to be my first move, but I'm struggling to find the right ones. Hadn't thought about the voltage being different under load. I know very little about electrics as you will have guessed.

Finding the right battery replacement can be fun, I looked all over before finally ordering on Amazon. I use Prime so they came next day - from Germany!

There are hundreds of CR1632 cells on Amazon .... I use the LiCB CR1632 at £5.99 for 10 and replace them at beginning of each season. Never had a problem with a battery even using them on our toad.

Yep agree.. change battery... 2 to 3 yrs is good going for them..
I change my battery's every year regardless... and also the small o rings in the sensor...

I have had a problem with disc batteries on my Mopeka sensors Duracell at that, I thought the sensor was faulty only to find out that the new battery has some kind of coating on it
Thanks to Dave Ditcha proving this with a separate power supply and lightly removed the coating with fine sanding.
