My Autosleeper tyre pressures are 80psi. I bought a Rovtop tyre inflator (made in China) on EBay but it only ran for about 20 seconds before stopping dead and smelling faintly of burning. Unfortunately I hadn't tested it when I received it and was a few days outside the return window of one month.

Has anyone bought an 80psi + tyre inflator they are impressed with please? I don't mind paying for quality.

I liked the Ryobi one but it's an expensive option if you haven't already got the battery / charger. But I've got Makita chargers and batteries so have bought a Makita inflator which looks really good and has great reviews.
I'd be wary of reviews, as I suspect most will have been used at lower pressure than what you are seeking and also within days of purchasing, so no long-term experience. It's the connection with the tyre valve that makes the difference when you get to 80psi.

Thanks very much for the recommendations everyone. Most inflators seem to use croc clips onto the battery and I didn't want to have to lift the battery cover in the passenger floor every time.

That's what I was gonna suggest ;)

Mine is a great tool :)

My Fiat came with a puncture repair kit that includes a compressor.
They don't last long I've clapped out two of them, once they start making more noise than when new, bin it as it will let you down when you really need it.
Another Vonhaus user. Easy to use, conviennent to store, easy and quick to charge and powerful enough to top up all four to 75 psi.
Pumped up a completely flat 16" Motorhome tyre with it, got to 49 psi before the battery died. I thought that was really impressive.
And of course you have the plug in 12v lead also found works well on the push bikes.
Excellant bit kit.

I guess that any tyre compressor that doesn't have a storage tank, will take ages to inflate a high pressure van tyre, especially if 80PSI is required. The Carthago one I have does do the job, but seems to be getting weaker, now making a funny noise, think piston rings may be getting worn & it takes longer each time I use it.
I dont want to buy a Ring one as I have had a few of them in the past that just worked one minute, then didnt when I needed them,:swear: the digital displays fail, returned to Halfords for exchange.
The dual piston ones look a better option, especially if connected directly to the battery, as they draw a higher current, so must have larger motors, but they will still take a long time to get a tyre from 60PSI to the recommended 79PSI that Michelin recommend on the rear axle, maybe a tea break between tyres may be a good idea to let it cool down.(y)
I will make a decision one day...promise!

Replace it, once they start making that noise they don't last long.

One T Max has seen off a couple of Rings.

T max is the compressor of choice for a lot of 4 x 4 owners, many of whom remove the handles and hard-wire them into their rigs. The T Maz will inflate anything from flat to 80+ and stay cool, no need for ten-minute stops. Can't recommend it highly enough.

I have mine strapped to a small suitcase trolley complete with battery, so it's easy to wheel it out when I need to check tyres

Like Thornebt, I recently purchased this Makita inflator new on eBay (£62), as I have a range of Makita diy tools in addition to a vacum cleaner, and hand held pressure washer (which can pump from a hose connection or from a bucket). I carry them in the Motorhome and they do not weigh much. The benefit is that I only need take the one rechargeable battery/ charger which fits them all. Good quality stuff and the charge lasts for ages.

The inflator and other units are sold without the battery. The inflator has a max pressure of 120PSI. No hose to pull around or 12v cable needed. If you have Makita tools, I would certainly recommend the inflator and vacuum cleaner. If you have other makes of cordless tools like Dewalt etc they may sell similar units.

On the VonHaus, is the 12v connection used to power the pump or is it charging the battery? Assume if just charging, it won’t draw high amps from the 12v socket?
The 12v connector just powers the pump without the battery.

Have owned a VonHaus since 2019, great device. Just ordered a new battery for it, have pumped a few tyres up from flat, and not mine. Once you have experienced a wireless model you will not want to go back being tied to a 12v lead dangling out the cab. If I was going to be critical, would say the air lead is too short and it is not safe to leave the battery on all the time as the light switch is not protected from accidently switching on flattening the battery. If you have owned one of these devices for a while, check your battery by inflating a tyre, testing without a load will not confirm if the battery is good.

I also have an AUTDER Portable Air Compressor which I rate better than the VonHaus and comes in a decent case and will pump to 180 psi. Admitidley the first one I ordered after 3 months sent back as the battery failed, may have been unlucky. Will see how long the replacement lasts.

I just use the supplied pump with our Bailey (Peugeot), admittedly only to adjust pressures and once to add 20psi to a trailer spare that had just been fitted (after the lead axle o/s tyre delaminated). Never had a problem but having said that it will probably fail next time I use it.

I believe the Autder uses USB to charge the battery. How long does a full charge take? - I’m assuming longer than if there were a mains charger.

The picture shows a clip/lever connection. Is there a screw onto the valve option as well?

Thanks

Has mains charger for battery and will charge USB devices from port.
The air lead is a decent length so have not needed to use clip.
