WANTED Twin axle car transporter

I’m looking for a lightweight twin axle car transporter to carry 1000kgs. Vehicle is 4mtrs long and 1.8mtrs wide. A tilt bed would be a preference but not a deal breaker.

Same problem. Like you, I wanted tilt bed, twin axle, but no one seems to make it within the weight range I wanted.

So we went for a Woodford LWT 072. This is the It is the optimum size for our 880 kg, 4.1m car, bit of luggage and two bikes. Uses ramps, max total weight is 1600kg, we probably tow at 1450kg with no issues.

They do shorter twin axles that max at 1600 kilos (LWT 050, 0512, 052, 070, 071), but we went for the 072 because we wanted to avoid any overhang.

We got ours from http://www.southeast-trailers.co.uk/ but there must be a Woodford dealer closer to you.

You going to buy a Smart car like Andrea’s buddy?
No Brian Baldeagle7470 its for my 1993 Eunos Roadster ( in uk MX5).

My problem is my Eunos has been lowered 35mm so a tilt bed would help. We’re in Spain for the winter and missed one quite close to us at home unfortunately.

If you see another I don’t mind going to look at it for you .

Badknee my trailer is a twin wheeler and will take our Fiat Panda 4x4 which is approx 1100 kg a great trailer. It’s made by https://www.phoenixtrailer.co.uk/
Ours was £ 1600 delivered with spare wheel and rear jack legs and jockey wheel.?

I have a single axle. Never used it yet. Is it going to be that bad?
I have had single axle trailers in the past and loading them is an art. Moving the load a few inches forward or back makes a difference to stability. I’ve towed but not owned twin axle trailers and found them more stable. My Eunos is approx a 1000kgs and will be towed behind the moho and I want it stable.

With ours you don’t know it’s there no snaking and very stable?
I’ve added a photo to previous post.?

Stability while towing.
I don't think stability is an issue towing with a motorhome. I tow a Smart car on a single axle - all up probably around 1100Kg. I know it's a well-worn statement but it's true: I can't feel it at all other than reduced acceleration. I'm an ex-tugger so sensitive to stability issues and there aren't any - it is completely different to towing a caravan with a car. I made sure not to get a twin-axle because of their one disadvantage which is the difficulty moving them around by hand. (That and four tyres to replace.) :giggle:

Glad your happy with yours but I intend to put a motor mover on it so I can move it around loaded.

Do you think it would be feasible to keep one in my drive ( where you once parked your van) rotated so A frame was at the fence, so I could park my Fiat on it when using it as a run about. Then turn it on movers so I could attach it to my van?

Yes, use it as storage you mean? Our moho is nine metres so there would be plenty of room. If you got a tilt bed one you wouldn’t need ramps either.

I've had a motor-mover (bought second hand) for the last two years. One day I might have time to install it. :giggle:

Don’t have any trouble moving our if you lift the front pair off the ground with the jockey wheel?

Both types are OK on tarmac but on grass or gravel I can't move mine with the car on it. I can pull the hitch sideways to straighten the trailer but that's it.

Mmm that might work if I just put the front wheels on it. I mean storage for the trailer but the car in daily use. I don’t think it would be practical to get in and out of the car each time I used it with the car fully on the trailer

I am also an ex-tugger and I do find the twin axle very stable. But each to his own. Regarding moving a twin by hand, the solution is easy. Wind it up on the jockey wheel until the fore axle is off the ground. Result? You have a single axle trailer! And the actual weight difference in equivalent trailer bed sizes is less than 100 kg.

My preference for a twin is about paranoia. Two reasons.

1. The tyre pressures on a single are twice that for a twin. Therefore (and this is only my theory  ) a blow out would be more dramatic.

2. A single axle blow out, loses one tyre out of two. A twin axle blow out loses one out of four. I have read that losing one tyre on a twin axle gives you enough time to pull over and change the tyre. On a single axle, the damage to the trailer would likely be more severe as it tips to the side. This could result in our car dragging the trailer on its side, wrecking itself, the car and the tow bar.

Happy to be told I am wrong!

Done a bit more digging into the question of small, twin axle, tilt bed trailers. We have a Woodford with ramps, which his fine, but a tilt bed would be easier as we get more decrepit.

Basically, none are small.

We tow a Suzuki Ignis. Empty, it is about 900 kg but we put about 100 kg of gear in it. Looking at this list, I am leaning towards the Brenderupp. This would give us a tow weight of about 1650kg. Has anyone ever used one?

Am I right in reading that the Brenderupp above has a 2500kg total mass weight, because if so you would need to check your available weight because although you would only be using it at 1650kg you still have to be able tow the 2500kg. I think.

With our Phoenix we do have ramps to put out but it is only 4.5m long including the draw bar and gross weight is 1700 kg trailer weight 500kg it takes our 1100 kg Panda easily.? It looks like the tilt action adds quite a bit of length??

I don’t think it would matter as long as he does not go over his Gross train weight as his car and trailer would only be 1530kg. I dont think you are stopped from using an over capacity trailer as long as you don’t go over GTW??
