TV to use UK,France, Italy and Spain

Could anyone please advise me of a suitable TV for use in the above areas. Last year we found that are current TV could no longer tune in abroad to pick up that countries TV channels
Ideally we would like a 22ins Screen but do not want to go to the expense of an Avtex TV and do not want a satelite dish
Recommendations appreciated
 
As far as I am aware, a modern digital receiver should work anywhere in Western Europe. You just need to re-tune it whenever you move.

However I've never bothered with ours so I might be wrong.

If you're thinking of using a satellite dish, that's a whole different question.
 
Doubt you will get many English language channels using a non satellite kit. My sister lives in the south of France and with a terrestrial aerial can only pick up free to air french channels
She has 2 Samsung digital tv’s. Any tv with a digital tuner will work.
 
I assume you are using an aerial not a satellite dish. In France you will need a digital TV with an HD (high definition) tuner, not an SD (standard definition) one. All digital broadcasts in France went over to HD a couple of years ago and the SD tuner in older digital TVs will not work. I bought a Cello 19" digital TV a couple of years ago off Ebay which came with 12V and 230V adaptors. It was sold to us by Cello who assemble them in the North East of England. Search Ebay for "Cello traveller". But make sure you get one with an HD tuner.

We have a Cello 22 and it works fine for local TV everywhere except France..............of course with an outside Status aerial..........................

But despite having HD all over it, there is no HD tuner so it will not work in France so we got THIS to go with it...................plug in a USB and watch your recorded programmes. Some of the newer ones have this PVR function but not the HD

As Lenny said if you have a TV and aerial just get the box
 
We bought ours from Aldi last year after our previous tv (Avtex) wasn't able to pick up channels in France due to them changing to HD.
Decided not to get another Avtex because they were completely dismissive of the changeover saying we'd have to upgrade. They didn't say anything about a HD receiver box (which would have worked), so I took the suggestion and did upgrade but not with an Avtex

Out of UK watch UK TV over internet (BBC iPlayer, ITV IPlayer Hub etc etc) with VPN and cable from laptop to TV. Cheapest and easiest!

Our 22" Cello Traveller works fine in France but there is a fault with the sound it's all in French.:rofl:

Not sure which of the 4 similar posts I should answer. :D2

That assumes that you will be able to get a fast enough connection. Can't see how it can be the cheapest, terrestrial TV is free to view, whereas, one way or another, you are going to have to pay quite a bit to use that sort of data.
 
Cheap it won't be.........................unless you have a magic data tree

Have spoken direct with Cello who inform me the only way to receive HD channels in France is to purchase a HD receiver in France as either of their 22in HD models will not pick up signals. Also in Spain they tell me satelite is the only way to receive local channels, If I understood them correctly!

Nonsense. Last autumn we picked up local channels in both France and Spain using our Cello TV with its inbuilt HD receiver. However we have always had difficulty picking up anything in Portugal with either the Cello or the previous Avtex we had.
 
We have one of these loaded with any thing we can copy on to it.



Played through one of these.



But we do have a 240V inverter.
 
But free no fast........................fast no free
Unless sitting on receptionists knee.

Has to have a DBT-2 tuner to receive HD signals and our Cello 22in only has DBT tuner.
The box I linked to before picks up HD channel and is a cheaper version of @Stealaway link.
Still need a USB or external drive for pre recorded films.

I presume you have a good outside aerial

There is no such thing as a free lunch. You pay for it through your campsite fees. We tend not to use campsites so we pay a lot less than you (or nothing at all), but if we want data we have to pay for it. So either way you are paying for it, directly or indirectly.

And the few times I have used a campsite's wifi, both in the Uk and Europe, it is slow and turns to glacially slow in the evening when lots of people start trying to stream their TV.
