Hopefully you are not fed up with my pestering!!
What aerial set up do you guys recommend?

We have a Status typed airial fitted to our motorhome. I works in most places we have been occasionally some channels are missing or we get nothing at all.
Parked next to us is a van conversion with an Oyster dish on the roof. It came up and has been going round and up and down presumably looking for a signal.
We have managed to get most channels and we have WIFI and CD player if we fancy a change. I bet the Oyster system cost more than all our gadgets put together.

August DTA240 little magmount aerial.
It will be the best 10 quid you ever spend. Forget all the expensive contraptions above 😎

Do you plug this directly into the back of the tv through a window.

I have an external Ariel socket so I guess I plug the August DTA tv Ariel plugged into this and then have the tv and it’s Ariel still plugged into the wall plate Ariel socket inside to complete the circuit.

I’m guessing that I then get a boosted DTA signal because the external Ariel must be on the same circuit on a splitter as the inside plug which had its own vision plus booster box.

Just plug ours directly into the TV, the coax comes in through the door and the aerial is on the roof above the door.
It doesn't need the amplifier.

Well - what can I say.

Arrived on site and got 50+ Freeview channels with booster and my roof omni Ariel. However, a lot of channels crackling and sparkling on screen.

Out with the DTA250 onto aluminimum roof for grounding, (not magnetic but heavy enough to stay out), through skylight and straight into the back of tv, and voila.

Nearly as many channels and proper HD with no picture break up.

Brilliant.

Thanks for the heads up and all for less than £10.

Is there any reason the August 240 or 250 could not be permanently placed on top ? I m thinking gluing a tin base to the roof and ensuring aerial is stuck to tin base but using magnet as well to enhance signal.
I suspect although it works amazingly well, the build quality is not there to be left out in the rain, and will soon corrode and stop working.

What about bonding a piece of ferritic stainless steel to the roof...
500x500mm £17.12

Then you can stick it on magnetically just when needed 😎👌

Good idea. 500x500mm is a little excessive!:whistle::giggle:

Currently playing with a couple of ideas.

We have 2 tvs. (posh arent we) and we have a lead that goes through the roof atm which I can signal split but we cant even get a signal where we are and it doesnt look great elsewhere (went for a run and test yesterday) hence the looking at alternative options.

One of those options is actually getting the one that turns up tomorrow and using biscuit tin lead/sheet of magnetic plate but length of lead could prove an issue, so possibly 2 biscuit tins and through the roof (for bedroom and lounge) or one with an amplifier then signal split and leave it there permanently. If its magnetically strong enough we might leave it up there for the summer season and take it off during winter.

Certainly would I reckon. Might well do the same when my van eventually arrives.
I ve bought too many and cant see a reason as to why i would want the excess
I ll let you know how it works and you can owe me a beer if we ever meet.

Give me a shout in about a week

just look at local houses or other motorhomes to see which setting you need.
Other vans aren't always an indication of which way and polarity to aim for.
Many attempt to find a signal but eventually think "sod it, I'll read a book" and leave the aerial where it last pointed.
House aerials of course aren't adjustable once fitted so will always point the right way
