truck sat nav

These don't look bad, what would be good is to convert the autoroute poi for use on them

Traffic

Hi all,
doe this unit have traffic information as I find this essential?
Thanks,

Does anyone find that this device is larger than they need? I have a 4.3 inch sat nav and the size is perfect. I fear that this 7 inch model would be too big. However, the features do look good.
bought a couple of these they appear to be working ok, uk / europe maps, sped warning,co-ordinates,video,music,photo ets,
vehicle h/w, weight /lenght, anybody got 1 used 1,bought 2 by mistake but can use 1 in truck & 1 in car:thumb::thumb::Eeek:

I bought mine based on the comments above and it is due to arrive during the week. I could not find any traffic info which I have found useful with my garmin. The Garmin one that I was looking at had traffic, blue-tooth and full european maps but cost £200 - it was to replace the one that I've had for 8 years but stopped charging a few weeks ago. This Chinese version is £140 cheaper and has the ability to add height which is more beneficial to us when we are travelling in Europe. The traffic feature will be missed but I can use Google maps on my phone in the UK if traffic congestion is likely to be an issue. The only other downside of the Chinese one that I have seen so far is the size - it is almost twice the size of my old one and will look huge in our car ....

My plan is to keep the Garmin in the car which is when I need to know of any traffic problems. The new model will stay in the motorhome - if we get stuck in traffic on the motorway we just make car drivers jealous by making a cuppa and a snack.

I have an all singing Garmin 3790, but I will be using the 7" satnav alongside it to see how it performs for a few days, then if it works ok, I will be selling the Garmin because I prefer the 7" screen.
Anybody want a nice Garmin SatNav?
Allan

I was looking at the TomTom camper version. It only has a 5" screen, and costs £326.00. No contest.
Just ordered the reversing camera to fit. OK, I know its not hard wired, but for 25 quid.......And how often do you really need it? Anyway, will give it a go. If it performs OK, I will post on here.

£62.00 Truck SatNav from Ebay. I think it was from Navibuzz.

Unit arrived a few minutes ago so I've started the manual printing (thanks Trikeman) and just about to put it on charge whilst I have a coffee and read the booklet in the box.

I have just added a zip file to the download area for the kml files needed to create bulk pois for the following

ACSI 2014
Bordatlas 2014
CCI Aires France 2013
Archies Camping 2014

To save everyone else looking for them.

John

Mine took about 5 hours to charge.
Allan

So did mine. I was a bit worried at first, but it seems OK now.

Gents,
never mind the reversing cameras, have you seen the other wonderful plug in accessories for our Chinese 7'' satnavs - hair dryers, heated under blankets, vibrating seat squabs, dialysis machine and even a twin mug coffee heater/stirrer. They think of everything these Chinese, and you can still buy 6 of them for the price of a TT camper. Wired into your air suspension they can even auto drop your rear end to get under the bridge that exceeds you van height you have put in.
Tootles, the reason for the extended charge is to (I've been assured) accommodate the option of the twin paddle defibrillator (available as an optional extra).

Oh' aren't they great aye?

Trikeman.

Used mine this morning Leeds to Blackpool
First the 12 volt lead went a very loud bang :Eeek: however it is still functioning and must have blown clear as it did not take out my fuse.
First impression is excellent but still not perfect. At junction 17 on the M60 it took me off to the roundabout and back onto the same road M60 costing over ten minutes in rush hour traffic.
I thought perhaps it new something I didn't so obeyed :Rofl1: despite the big screen it did not show enough to be able to see what it intended

It's charged so I just tried a route I know and it avoided a couple of narrow and awkward roads that I would never try to take a van down. Now updating the map update.

One question. Between the AV/IN and earphone sockets there is some white tape. Should that be removed? Might it be covering the Micro SD card slot (which I can't see)?

Mine had a strip of clear tape covering the micro sd card slot, I assume, making sure the card didn't fall out, or as a check that the card is installed. Whatever, it covered the sd card and I took it off to remove the card for updating.

Thanks Allan. I just removed the tape and what do you know? There's a Micro SD card there

How do I download the latest maps? The Navi site asks for a username/password

You should have a card in with the nav that has details about downloading new maps, the id and password are on it.
Allan

I've just tried an experiment calculating a route from Middlesbrough to two specific addresses in the village of Hadfield in Derbyshire.

The first was fine, avoiding the B6105 which is the normal fastest route and where our Tom Tom takes us.

The second avoided a small road which Tom Tom would use but the last half mile was questionable (though understandable). It used a road up a hill which is nominally wide enough but suffers congestion from parked cars so, whilst not a problem for a car, might be in a motorhome if another large vehicle was coming the other way.

Just goes to show that even with the enhanced routing, sat navs are only a helpful tool and not to be relied upon totally.

Hardly the satnavs fault. But, as you say they are only ever a guide. Not to be followed blindly. Come to think of it that applies to a map or any other system, I suppose.

Absolutely, Wyn. As I said, understandable. I have been impressed so far as I've been very sceptical of the claims made for the software and mapping. Still glad I paid 63 quid and not 363 quid though

Just home from work and mine has arrived :thumb:

So now it's charging I've decided to download maps ready but I can't decide which maps (easily confused). Do I want the common map or (as I suspect) the truck map, or maybe both :blonde2:

Also, can I have more than one country installed ?

Thanks folks

I think you need the truck maps installed, and yes, you can have more than one country installed. I have the whole of Europe installed in mine.
Your sat nav will come with all Europe maps installed too, you can download and install the updated maps though. I would just try it as it is for the time being, maybe update the maps you need when you have used it for a while.

i read a post last month about a chinese truck sat nav and a member had done a comparison to tom tom sat nav, there was included in the replies a pdf down load for instuction manual, and a link to the seller ,
could any member please help me locate the post i have searched but must not be doing right.
i have purchased one of these sat navs and i am trying to find out how you can just put the post code in and sat nav will do the rest.(like tom tom)
i would be greatful if any funster could point me in the right direction thank you... bill..

Bought a 7 inch Truck sat Nav off ebay Navibuzz Glasgow for £62.99. I have a 2012 Autotrail Apache with a built in sat nav that sends me down narrow roads and towards bridges with weight restrictions under 4 ton. This allows me to enter height, weight, length so I put it to the test in Northumberland last week when using both, just until my confidence grew in the product and the Naviextra built in unit sent me down a road with restrictions and the Navibuzz said don't go. Best £62.99 I spent in a long time. It also covers more countries in the eastern block than the built in unit. Terry
