Ok DBK. Link attached, hope it opens.
It's a vid after a very windy night. Already wound in the awning canopy because of a rip and the wind breaker is looking a bit sad. Also, can't seem to get rid of the sound.
Happy Jack.

Yes it opens. Will do vids with sound muted to begin with in future.

Am now going to use phone exclusively to post text/pics/vids.
Still learning , made errors but will get there.
These posts on our trip now looking a bit disjointed.
will only improve.
Next instalment soon.

Day2...on IOW....going to Carisbrooke castle.
We are getting about by bus.
Caught No 8 to Newport, then No7 to Carisbrooke.
Total time including waiting/walking about 50mins.

Donkey on the water wheel

Castle entrance.

Oops, accidentally posted.
Enjoyed our time at the castle. Seems easy to get about by bus.
Wandered about Newport for a while, got nothing to recommend it really, just like any other town.
Spent couple hours at the castle, didn't take many photos though.
WILL start getting things right.

Day3....Take it easy morning, then SWMBO and MBKS decided that since we needed supplies we could grab our main meal at the local supermarket, something we never do!!!!
Jumped on the No8, headed towards Sandown bout 20 minutes by bus. But got off at the big supermarket on the outskirts. Got their ultimate f& chips; mushy peas and chips with pot of tea.
Fish not tasty and chips were sort of french fries also poor. All for £19 !!!!!
Got much better Sheringham early June when we were in Norfolk for £6 less!!!!
After that got a couple things then crossed the road and got a fair few more bits at Aldi.
As I'm on the subject of food .....In our van freezer we put 8 homemade meals in then an assembly of other stuff like ginger cake, savoury muffins, pizza loaf, carrot cake, hot water crust pies, plain scones.
And other stuff, crammed full at the start.
(The scones are a recipe from Baking with granny.com, best in the world).
On the afternoon we slept off the heavy belly, 😞.
Evening time watched stuff on the Chromebook, WiFi reception good here so no need to watch the downloaded stuff. A few drinks then a good night's sleep.
Happy Jack.

Day4......Osbourne house EH, Queen vics gaff.
2 buses, No8 to Newport bus station then No5 towards East Cowes, but get off at Ozzy house.
Spent 5 hours their, well worth it in the end.
But, we felt the house externally was bland; internally plenty of stuff to gaze at but so many people that the EH staff could only usher people along. They had no time to pass on any info.
Also, only about 5 rooms open on each of 3 floors and no kitchens to look through!!!!
Outside the grounds are vast and tranquil in in the quiet areas. Had brought our lunch which in part was hot water crust pies made to a Mary Berry/Paul Hollywood recipe from some years ago.
All I can say about how good they were us ..Melton eat your heart out😭.
Next we headed down to Q vics beach. Spent an hour relaxing in a deck chair. Sunny, warm but a bit windy. Thoroughly enjoyed it
On leaving, got on No5 again to East Cowes to visit the only Waitrose on IOW.
For 2 special items. Geo Watkins Mushroom Ketchup to take home. First used it on a Paul Hollywood Buffalo pie recipe which he made when visiting a Scottish farm. We even made it with Buffalo a few times but they don't do deliveries to England any more. Anyway, the ketchup is used in pies, stews, casseroles etc to give extra boost of flavour. Best thing is it's only £1.70 a bottle in Waitrose. Cheapest I've seen it anywhere else is £6.
Also, powdered pectin at £2 for 3 sachets; also cheaper than anywhere else. Can only get liquid pectin in our local supermarkets, we don't think it works on jams as well.
What can I say about Waitrose....the wonderful everyday!!!!!
2 buses back to Dairymans Daughter, got back early evening; well happy.
Queen Vic private beach vid below.

Day5.
Decided to do Ryde, Sandown & Shanklin.
Ended up being 6 buses in total!
Had put Southern Vectus bus app on phone but I find it more convenient to use Google maps, input destination and select mode of travel.
At Ryde ventured out onto the pier but blowing a hooligan. Turned back after 100 yards.
Had a good look round all 3 towns, paraded down couple of esplanades and walked on the beaches.
One word...MARMITE.
However, still enjoyed the day out
Ended up being a long day.
Glad to get back to van.
Rested up, ate, drank, watched some telly.
Still windy but thought nowt of it.
Turned in and was woken a couple times by the wind.
Had forboddings towards dawn.....the wind out canopy, Arghhhhhh.
Looked out window, yes it has a 3" rip near the edge at one of the legs. Believe will need to put a repair on it. Heard somewhere that that you can't simply trim some off along the whole length.
Anyone know if that's true???
A good day nearly spoiled.
Happy Jack.

You were lucky. If the wind had got under the awning it could have flipped it up and over your roof. The bill would have been measured in thousands. :(

Day6. Godshill model village.
For all we'd had a mini disaster, off we went.
A 2 bus journey, 50 ISH minutes each way.
Most of our trips out involve Newport bus station.
All roads lead to Newport🏛️.
Had a good time, models are very well done and well kept. Had brought our packed lunch and enjoyed it in the pleasant sunshine. Just a gentle breeze.
Stayed on bus on way back to go to Aldi for more bits & pieces. It was 6pm when we got to bus stop, that's when we found out service goes to hourly!!! Walked over the road to Morrisons, got some other stuff more to while away a bit of time.
Back to site around 7, meal, settle down, watch telly and gid nights💤.

Hi DBK.
Use screw in spikes on the legs and have a tie down kit. Should have realised the material would be the weak point.
Will repair and have myself an anti-flap kit.
And wind it in when anyway when windy conditions expected. Rather go through the bother of packing things up than deal with damage.
Happy Jack.

Day7.....A rainy day all day.
Decided to visit Thompsons garden centre near Amazon world zoo.
Wandered round, bought a couple plants then back in bus but down to Aldi for couple things.
Then bus back to van.
Rest of day lucky enough to sit outside, rain stopped and sun trying to get out.

Day8.....Raining more persistently.
Stayed in, played cards, monopoly, dominoes then mucked about on tablets. Whiled away the time.

All told lucky with weather up to now.
Getting about by bus has been easy but some of the journeys have been a little time consuming and getting a little tedious now. But as already noted in an earlier post have seen I think on m/home forum that it's not the easiest if islands for parking m/homes.
Last day on IOW coming up.
Happy Jack.

Day9....Mottistone gardens, NT.
No 8 bus to Newport then No 12, 65 minutes.
Dryish when we set out, raining when we got there.
Brolleys up. Good walk round the gardens, really nice, bought yet more plants. Need to nurse them to get them home.
Set out to walk up to the "Longstone" and the views to go with it being at a high point but rain more persistent, turned back after 5 minutes.
Had some food and tea at the tearooms then headed back to site.

One more day to go, misquoted on my last post.
But, pent the last day anyway just lolling around relaxing then packing up to head off.
Nowt to drink that night, driving next day.
Leaving IOW next day but another couple sites on the way home.
Happy Jack.

Ferry and Devizes.
Up early, head to Yarmouth for 0800 ferry.
Roads quiet. Crossing nice and smooth.
Had checked out route to avoid Salisbury area, not wanting to get caught out on road closures.
Headed up the A337 then M27 towards S/hampton then M3 past Winchester then A303 past Andover then A36 on to A350 to Devizes.
Yes it added miles but no congestion.
Was early so parked up on a decent lay-by for a cuppa
Arrived at Devizes ccc club site just nicely at 1300.
Wardens brilliant as usual.
We had a hard standing with EHU, wasn't a grass only available when we booked.
Good facilities here.
Seems that if there is an EHU with the pitch it carries an EHU price.
Had a bus ride into Devizes, on reflection should have got off at Caen hill locks; a series of 16 locks in quick succession on the canal.
By the time we finished wandering round we just wanted to get back to van. Maybe another time.
Only 1 night here.
Total miles so far 608.
Happy Jack.

Little Stryne ccc cs, again. On our way home.
Left Devizes 0800.
Interim destination Banbury hall NT, 106 miles.
Arrived in good time. Good couple hours, as usual NT volunteers very good.
Banbury hall.

Next on to Little Stryne.
We know this site well £10 a night.
Had a 15 minute walk to Alveston country park, had a good wander round. Sunshine thankfully!
Not many on site.
Caravan arrived after us and noticed he coupled a water hose up and led it to the bullrushes next to the river.
Thought that would go into the watercourse.
Well, water companies do a lot worse!!!!?
Enjoyed our 1 night here.
Next stop Brodsworth hall then Pontifract.
Total miles 784.
Happy Jack.

I don't think there are views from the Longstone if I recall correctly, you would have to walk up higher.

I'm told the buses have stopped going to the Botanic Garden at Ventnor, but it's worth a visit.

Thanks for the thread, Jack.

Didn't get to vent or, maybe next time. Rain spoiled it anyway for going to the Longstone.

Brodsworth hall EH and Pontifract.
Left little stryne bout 830, 65 miles to go.
Traffic OK but had to do the slow. 20 mile stretch of roadworks for new emergency lay byes, again hardly a worker in sight.
Good couple of hours at the hall, one of the best we have visited. Huge well laid out gardens, lovely restoration and furnishing etc. EH volunteers passed on loads of interesting info.

And vids.

Next travelled the 25 miles to Pontifract, stayed with relatives couple of days, then 95 miles to home.
Now back home.

A few repairs/improvements to do.
Wind out awning fabric rip to sort, repair kit arrived.
Shower tambour door slat tapes have relaxed and door see saws when opening/ closing and tends to jam.
Self adhesive pre-shrunk cotton twill tape on order.
Sat nav went dead during early part of trip, usb socket on lower part of dash not working. Rigged up temporary long usb cable to a leisure battery usb socket.
Now sorted, laid long cable from sat nav base station to under the dash to a van battery powered usb outlet which I had previously fitted.

One final installment to come.
Happy Jack.

The thumbnails appear either when you upload an image and forget to insert it, or if you upload the image twice and only insert one of them. I think in your post above you just didn't insert them. :)

Yes DBK, I think some may have been uploaded twice!!!
Must be more careful.

Summary.
Good holiday, enjoyed ourselves.
Nights away.....21
NT/EH properties visited.....10.
Total miles travelled.....950, average 45 per day.
Total costs:-
Diesel..............£200. (30 Gallons, 31mpg approx).
Site fees..........£170.
Ferry................£152.
Incedentals.....£110.
Total................£632. (Approx £30 a night for 2)

Reflections.
We are retired, nowt spoiling at home.
Could have had more nights at sites going to IOW.
Could have had more nights on IOW.
Could have skipped IOW, cost of ferry would pay for more nights at CCC Club sites.
Could have had more nights at sites on way home.
The above= more nights away, more cost effective.
Booking in advance is cost effective, but ad-hoc on the spur of the moment gives more choice when good weather strikes.

Conclusion.
We still enjoy, still learning, still making mistakes.
NT/EH membership worth it for us, for now.
IOW again, probably not, lots of other places to see.
Next trip.
Will be following the weather 🌞, thinking Northumberland or Yorkshire or North Wales or South West Scotland.
Open to suggestions.
Thanks for all your likes, comments on anything would be much appreciated.
Happy Jack.

Thank you for such a detailed diary… look forward to the next 🧡🤍🖤
