Most of my life in one form or another
Decided to use the van today for work instead of the motorbike.
Spent an hour clearing snow off our road( started at 5am)
20230310_065031.jpg
then got 1 and half miles then gave up.
Back home now .

The car at the top had been abandoned.
The van was sliding sideways.
The car behind the van couldnt move.
The big white merc was turning round and got hit broadside by a car sliding down the hill.
Quite an eventful morning .
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
In bed now enjoying a cuppa.

Ah oki doki.... maybe an all action video would have been better....😂😂❄️❄️😂😂

I wonder why the Merc decided to turn around, he/she should have been able to just drive around them all.

I must be missing something.... don't look that bad❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️

Piece of p*ss if they’d had winter tyres on.

It’s the way others drive though…….. ☹️

Or how they think summer tyres are appropriate for winter driving.

There's only a light covering of snow, what's the problem ?

Failure to swop to winter tyres doesn’t help those with limited finesse.

Astras are good as well. Best "ordinary" car I ever had for the snow was a Kia Cee'd !

Yeah winter tyres in the uk are great for the 1 or 2 days of snow we get a year

You are labouring under the erroneous assumption that winter tyres are snow tyres; they’re not.

Winter tyres offer superior performance over standard tyres when temperatures are 7 C or below. For most commuters through the winter period, winter tyres are operating in that temperature window and are eminently sensible. The fact that they perform way beyond your expectations in snow conditions is a welcome bonus.
Frankly, I wouldn’t run a vehicle through the winter without winter tyres fitted.

Our old corsa was great in the snow the worst seem to be BMW and mercs. Is it because they're rear wheel drive or another reason!

Fair point.
How do they last compared to " normal" tyres and are they usable in summer weather?
Cant afford or store a separate set of tyres.

We rum Michelin cross climates on both our cars. Replaced the front ones this year they lasted about 40k miles about the same as the original summer tyres. They aren't cheap but we drive over the north Yorkshire moors a fair bit and on one trip I was really glad of them. I suspect anyone stuck badly up there on a freezing cold night would stump up on the spot!

Our daughter has a BMW it won't go anywhere in the snow, it is because of rear wheel drive.

My wife had a 2CV nothing bothered it. The neighbour with his Volvo fitted with spiked tyres couldn't get off his drive, he liked winter holidays in Sweden.

Mrs Poppycampers 4x4 came from new fitted with winter tyres...8 yrs old now still have them fitted (not same ones) and run them all year..
My tugging Volvo XC90 also came fitted with winter tyres..

They are great most of the winter for us up here :cold: and we don't usally get a lot of snow.
I agree for most it is realy not worthwhile though.
Genrally we don't get enough wintery weather to invest in kit that most of the time is unused.
As said above most would benafit with cross climates of some discription

Yes, a work colleague had a BMW which she loved. She moved out to a village; the first hard frost and she was unable to steer it properly and nearly came a cropper at the bottom of the small hill she drove down, she soon changed it for a 4x4.

Winter tyres just became compulsory for some Departments along the French side of the Pyrenees. I live in 11, AUDE,Occitanie, which is mainly, not needing snow tyres, but neighbouring department, 66, Pyrenees Orientale is nearly all under this new rule.
so new businesses cropping up now, storage of winter tyres and changing tyres over.
I just forget the Peugeot and use the Land Rover.

Always been the norm where my brother lived in Germany. Used to have steels with winter tyres on stored at the dealer & alloys for the summer

Use chains.

I used them on the last van here in spain permanently . Hankooks. No problems ,no excessive wear
Last time I saw chains in this country was many many many years ago on the rear wheels of the Moggie Minor Post Office Vans..❄️❄️❄️
