Hello! We are researching buying a motor home to travel the country with our three dogs. I'm sure a lot of you do this so would like tips on how to do this with minimum of fuss! Where do they sit when you are travelling? How do you keep the van clean? Can you get awnings for motorhomes in which to clean the dogs down? Do many sites allow (3) dogs?
So many questions, I hope someone can help!

We make the half diner into a bed and one dog uses seat belt thingy clipped onto harness, little border travelled the same way but wasn't happy so have tried a fabric cage and dap spray but still not happy.
We're thinking of giving MHing up because of this.

Mind you was not happy when this happened and used nearly the whole tank of water with shower attachment
Had to clean em as restaurant wouldn't let em in
Our eldest does that so that she has to have another swim........they do look so happy though.

Love meeting dogs on our travels but decided not to have pets when we got our motorhome. Am wondering if you have tried your dogs in one, our good friends have a lovely Cocker who loves the car, but is a nervous wreck as soon as she sees the van. is fine once they are pitched up, but she hates the travelling.

Our Springer is the same, I think it's the noise, echoey and a few rattles. She isn't distressed just not settled and we are 4 years down the line.
We just ignore her and take regular breaks

I read a couple of days ago that there are regulations that state all pets have to be restrained in a vehicle and it carries a upto £2500 fine .

We have a Border Collie, took him 3 yrs to stop being sick in a car, and now he curls in a little ball and doesn't raise his head until he knows he's getting out.

Dreading his response to a MH and a harness :eek::eek:

To answer this multi part question, I would say, firstly, don't bother trying to keep the van clean! We religiously tried to towel our dog down when it was wet outside, she always managed to bring literally tonnes of mud into the van and deposit it on all surfaces.
We have now purchased a Vax carpet cleaner, and when it is raining, and the van get's muddy, it's an extra job to clean the carpets - simples.
As for travelling, we use a harness attached to the dinette seat belts. We do however have quite a large dog, here she is in her favourite van spot:

We travel with 2 dogs, a Labrador and a small mongrel (labradoodle).
They always wear harnesses for travel, secured into seat belts. We have leather upholstery, which is very forgiving especially if you clean them before they jump onto it! We put vet bed on the sofas when we're out and accept that there will be some 'nose art' on the windows whilst they wait our return. We take a Hoselock porta shower to clean them if they get particularly muddy, before they're even allowed back in the van. And then they get wrapped in a towel to dry off inside.

We don't have any problems. 8mtr home and there is room for everyone.

About time those tissue boxes carried a warning "handle with care due to possible explosion of tissues" we have had 3 boxes from Tescos which have done exactly the same, poor George (our springer) must have been terrified when they went off!!!!

an airborne 15kg dog would become a projectile with a force equivalent to a tonne approximately in case of impact. Result would be 1 dead or badly injured dog and 1 dead or seriously injured driver or passenger if the dog hits them
Still a more endearing projectile than the fridge :).
