Traveling In Europe Without Original V5

Can you supply any written documentation to prove this please.. as we have driven to France more than 20 times since 2016 and when asked for documentation (only the once) copies is accepted.. it’s just that we are going again in 1 months time, and want to be legal.. thank you (y)
I believe its the law for those living in the country in question (France in CG's case) but I'm not aware that this also applies to foreigners, however it is good practice to do so.

I still seriously doubt (and have the experiences, in Spain at least, to back it up) that it is most unlikely that any Non UK plod would be able to tell a (GOOD) copy of a UK V5 or any other UK document for an original. IF you where to have the vehicle stolen, with the V5 Etc in it. Then you are seriously "Stuffed".

Do your own research. Call the AA, or RAC, call your local police, or as you use the internet a google search. that way you know and are not asking on an internet forum with mixed responses from some who know and others perhaps are misinformed..

A bit 'unhelpful' especially since you mentioned previously that one IS needed ...

I've just done some digging for Steve and Kat and have come up with these:

It may seem odd to anyone in the UK as it's the only country i know that doesn't require you to carry vehicle reg docs and insurance certificate with you at all times, all European and many other countries i know do require this.

France certainly does require it and it does require originals and not copies although as we have all read here on MHF there's plenty of friendly and decent French police officers that overlook it.

Here a link to support the facts.

Same situation here and anyone would think you're mad for not taking them with you, after all what use are they at home in a filing cabinet ?

I take all the correct paperwork, the vests. the triangles, a spare set of bulbs, even when they were needed the drunk sticks as I called them..
In 12 years never been asked for any of them ! ( but yes, I still do and will carry it all )

So how does the law regard employed drivers of coaches and trucks who I know from experience only carry copies of original documents, and hired vehicles too ?
The probably have a different set of rules , being what are generally known as 'professional' drivers. In Spain even the alcohol laws are far lower for anyone classed as such.
