Travel to Scotland

But not to stay overnight unless for essential reasons, even in your own (second) property.

Tricky ... we’ve not been up since October so plenty of essential maintenance. So we could do day trips legally - 12 hour round trips or stay in our own house? Bizarre.

All this just shows the rules/guidelines whatever are overly complex and ambiguous. I'm hunkering down for another couple of weeks.
Yes we should do that really .. in reality it means we can’t go till end May due to work and sons exams ... and I’m sure stricter regulations will be brought in again after 6th May 😢

Tell me about it :) They have said we will need to leave our pitch when the guy comes, this isn't a problem for us and the guy said he could do it out in the car park if necessary. He does a few in their service/storage area and knows the wardens and has said he'll sort it out with them when he arrives, it's not a problem as we'll just go a walk round the loch.

He is also going to have a look at some minor warranty work as Don Amotts have giving him permission and will sort out payment for Knaus, this is due to him being an Knaus approved caravan service centre.
This is the area you'll be getting the work done in. The car park area is now taped off.
They'll probably tell you to move the van to there as they'll not allow your service guy onto the pitch side (being a visitor).
We must have been away at the time of the photo as our van's not on it's pitch.(y)

lorger I found that pretty confusing ... am I allowed to drive to our house in Torridon on Friday and stay there for the weekend with people I normally live with?
There is permission to travel & stay at a 2nd home to prepare it for letting, including carrying out maintenance, but you are not allowed to use this as an excuse for a holiday. This is broadly the same as the rules for England and was announced around 30th March.

There's so much stuff going on at present [and today's announcement brought forward some of the relaxations to help with people's mental health, so the Behavioural Scientists will have had a large say in the decision, possibly incorporating a 'if we don't control the relaxation today, the pictures from England will make people take risks/freedoms] that the boundaries are blurring [back to the no permission, but no prohibition on motorhome overnight stays].

Interesting that FM asked for fornbearance on international travel because of the risks from further mutant strains. Feels like a 'we've given you an inch [early relaxation of travel across Scotland], please don't take a yard'

It’s clear NO OVERNIGHT STAYS Anywhere until at least the 26th. Couldn’t be more clear on than matter. But some people will bend or ignore the rules as it didn’t say motorhome fallowing Covid rules exetttra. I’m glad it’s clear now. Until at least the 26th April 2021

If your vans there we’ll just nip in and make some lunch 😂😂. Not to bothered where they put us just as long as it gets done.

All done so that she is looked on more favourably come the 6th of May and then she’ll say I got it wrong and we’re stuck with her for another term. 😡😡😡

Just thought this was a reasonable place to post the gist of an enquiry I emailed to Forestry Scotland today as well as the standard reply that I half expected...

Good afternoon.
We made use of your very kind "Stay the Night" scheme during 2020 in our Motorhome and really enjoyed the experience.

We were wondering if there was any progress on the possible reintroduction of the system now that the Lockdown is now starting to lift?

Thanks in anticipation

Margaret & Barry

Good afternoon

Thank you for your emai

Thank you for your email. We had an overwhelming response to last years's trial and received a lot of feedback covering a range of views. This feedback, together with our experience of managing the trial is being factored into our discussions as we consider future options for this year and beyond. Any updates or outcomes from our discussions will be posted on our webpage Broken Link Removed the night so please check from time to time.

Kind regards, Kate

Exact same generic reply to my same Q last week. (y)

So from the .gov site it would appear that you can stay overnight as long as it's in your own council area.

What's changing

Some of the rules on what you can and cannot do will change on 16 April.

From 16 April you can:

  • meet in groups of up to 6 adults from 6 households socially outdoors, for recreation or exercise (under 12s do not count towards the number of people meeting or households)
  • travel anywhere in Scotland to meet others for the above purpose - but you must not stay away from your local council area (or for Highland or Argyll and Bute, the Level 3 or Level 4 part of those areas that you live in) overnight
The new Level 3 guidance which will come into force at 00:01 on 26 April has still to be updated

Friday 16th is the date people in Scotland can travel anywhere in mainland but no overnight stays.. The overnight stays from the 26th April, (to be confirmed on the 20th)is when these restrictions will most likely be be lifted ...put yourselves in locals shoes (many are Mhs themselves),, they have followed all Covid restrictions and even now, MHs /camper vans are turning up and flouting the rules,, you can understand their anger...please be sensible for the sake of 12 days...

According to Cameron McNeish the Scottish Foresty stay the night scheme should be back and announced from 26th April also.

Does anyone know for certain what the situation will be for travelling between England and Scotland after 26th April. The Scottish government plan to lift travel restrictions but is that only throughout Scotland. I have a need to pop across the border into Scotland but don't have genuine reason under the current exemptions.
We are still no wiser but with the election on the 6th of May we suspect she will fall into line with England and Wales on the 26th and showboat it as to how well she is handling the situation
So sorry it’s hurry up and wait

Without a doubt she will.

She has. Travel between Scotland and the rest of the U.K. will be allowed from 26th April. Also the islands will be in the same tier as the mainland so travel there will be allowed from the same date.

From the Scottish government website

Should data permit, the whole of Scotland, including all island communities, will then be in Level 3 from Monday 26 April. This will mean:
  • non-essential travel between Scotland, England and Wales will be permitted, and tourist accommodation in Scotland can reopen subject to socialising rules
  • shops will be able to fully reopen with precautions including physical distancing requirements, face masks and hand sanitiser in place
  • gyms and indoor sports facilities, including swimming pools, will reopen for individual exercise, with group activities permitted for under-18s, and all organised outdoor activity can resume except adult contact sport
  • limits on attendance at life events, including weddings, civil partnerships, funerals and receptions for those will increase to 50, with alcohol permitted
  • pubs, cafes and restaurants will reopen outdoors for groups of up to six people from up to six households with alcohol in line with local licencing laws, and indoors for groups of up to six people from up to two households without alcohol until 20:00
  • takeaways will be able to resume normal service, with physical distancing and face masks in premises
  • mobile close contact services such as hairdressers, barbers and beauty salons can resume
  • non-essential work in other people’s homes will resume

If we open up for cross border travel from the 26th then what’s the point of the tier system? I don’t think anywhere else in the U.K. has a tier system, if we go with one and there’s travel restrictions between tiers how will that affect the rest of the U.K.?

I must admit I'm concerned about folk from South of the border coming up to scotland, as a result of the Westminster govt announcing that people in England will be able to enjoy international travel from 17th may. Last autumns spike was linked to international travel. And I don't want to have to go into another lockdown in a couple of months because England opened up international travel.

That’s the laws of the land.
If the uk opens up and the islands are on a tier 3 and the rest of Scotland on a 4. Then the islands are in affect still in lockdown and illegal to visit. Leaving the mainland only open

Until other countries open they won’t be allowed to go anywhere and if you need test before and after at your cost this will prevent a lot of overseas travel.

That’s the laws of the land. If you don’t like don’t come.
First thing is I’m already here the second where does it say I don’t like them, I was asking a question on how can we as in Scotland open to cross border travel while implementing a tier system?
