I bank with nationwide and have a flexi plus account which gives me 31 days travel insurance. I used to be able to get worldwide travel insurance upgraded to 90 days which would last a year the price was never more than £150.
This was supplied by UKI. SInce N.W. have moved to AVIVA insurance the price and conditions seem to have drastically increased. I was quoted £199 for 90 days in Europe, but would only be covered for this period I.e not a full year as it used to be.
Has anybody else experienced this? It's not as if expensive flights or hotels are involved, I'm travelling in my motor home.

I've just bought a policy with Virgin, £172 for a year, 94 days away max each time.
I've just swapped from Staysure who quoted £152 black Friday offer (£186 before discount) but only covers 50 days max per any one trip. I've gone with Virgin £144 for 90 days max per trip under the "Gold annual multi trip" policy.

We've stayed with Staysure. We needed to add Inflammatory Breast Cancer (missus has had a full radiological & pathological response) and the annual premium jumped by £800 to £970, everyone else was nearer £2000.

Probably look elsewhere for 2025 when the new van arrives and we do a lot more touring.

You're not the only dissatisfied one. Several threads on this. Here's one of them from two weeks ago........

You are not the only one been hit by Nationwide change to Aviva I paid £230 last year for 90 day extension this year with Aviva over £800 a blooming rip off Though this they lost mine and my wife’s car insurance.

I defence of Nationwide.. Mrs E and I have a joint account. The society has paid out £100 each as a loyalty bonus on two occasions over the past three years, making the account effectively free. Just a thought...

But you can get that with the standard no-fee account anyway, if the insurance etc is cheaper elsewhere then get it there and downgrade to the free account and you'll still get the bonus.

They've lost us, too.
£480 each time for 2 x 90-day upgrades!
Both over 70 but only the usual medications.

The Virgin Money Club M account offers similar cover to the Nationwide Flex Plus account for £12.50 per month. We are thinking of switching our Nationwide account to the basic account and opening a Club M account. Has anyone used the Club M account for breakdown cover and travel insurance?

Yes we have had the same problem so we changed our bank to Lloyd’s much better

We have been with Nationwide for over twenty years, and will stay with them for the foreseeable future.

My main gripe with Aviva is that we need a new policy for each trip and not for each year.

I did make a claim recently with Aviva for a cancelled trip due to medical issues, and to be fair they did (eventually) pay out despite not notifying them beforehand of the booking.

I don’t use Nationwide though I have a account, I use my Barclays and pay £14.50 a month for both of us for Travel Pack which includes breakdown and medical expenses for UK and Europe for 31 days as we only travel abroad for 31 days at a time so it suits us, no cost for the account. Though now I think it’s covered with Aviva for medical not breakdown that’s RAC, it’s up to the age of 80 not sure if you can use after 80 years for a fee though, not there yet.

We have a smilemore account with Smile bank (part of The Co-operative Bank). We pay a monthly subscription of £15.50 which gives us both worldwide annual travel insurance (AXA), breakdown cover in the UK and Europe (RAC), and worldwide mobile phone insurance. The travel insurance is valid until age 79 and each trip can be up to 45 days. We reported my husband's existing conditions and medications and cover for those was accepted with no additional premium to pay.

I think that's pretty good for £186 per year. The only drawback is that each trip is limited to 45 days and they won't extend that, even with offer of payment.

The smilemore accounts are no longer available but The Co-operative Bank offers a very similar Everyday Extra current account.

Try the caravan and motorhome £380 for 120 days with full breakdown cover and repatriation including the dog, well worth it and with insurance you get what you pay for.
