I bank with nationwide and have a flexi plus account which gives me 31 days travel insurance. I used to be able to get worldwide travel insurance upgraded to 90 days which would last a year the price was never more than £150.
This was supplied by UKI. SInce N.W. have moved to AVIVA insurance the price and conditions seem to have drastically increased. I was quoted £199 for 90 days in Europe, but would only be covered for this period I.e not a full year as it used to be.
Has anybody else experienced this? It's not as if expensive flights or hotels are involved, I'm travelling in my motor home.

Yes unfortunately, this is how it is now with Aviva, I made a complaint to Nationwide, but they just passed it on to Aviva, of course that went nowhere.

Other than the insurance only being for one 'journey' it's still reasonable value if you include the breakdown cover, we hav four vehicles, so it pays for itself.

We're looking at the options but I suspect it's gone from cheaper to about the same as everywhere else depending on your circumstances

You're not the only dissatisfied one. Several threads on this. Here's one of them from two weeks ago........

I've just bought a policy with Virgin, £172 for a year, 94 days away max each time.

We had the same problem. After lots of phone calls and website form filling we went with Saga.

One thing I did notice throughout the whole process was the questions they ask. All in the same order, same format and same responses if you say yes or no.

It makes it feel like a stitch up.

Do you know if Morocco is part of their European cover?
If you get the worldwide cover it appears to cover Morocco as it's not excluded, we just get Europe cover:

I just cancelled and closed my nationwide flex account the other day as not prepared to pay £18 a month for the account anymore.

31 days travel insurance is useless to me
Silly boy you should've switched it to another bank to get the cashback!!!

I have just renewed my travel insurance with Staysure - single trip, 90 days cover (including Morocco) for £210 with their 20% "Black Friday" discount.

Didn't use it though so no monthly transactions, I only opened it to get breakdown cover for moby.
Easy enough to quickly set up some DDs for stuff ... they only need to show a payment for each one, too late now though.

You could've sponsored a donkey for a couple of months as well as another charity, you would've been quids in and so would they.

All this negativity about the changes to Nationwide, Yes it is worse than it was before (other than you no longer have to pay extra if you are over 70) but it is still very good value if it suits your needs.

1. It is worldwide cover so if you travel to The Far East or the Americas then it is useful - if you just the Europe in a motorhome then obviously you are paying for something you don't use.

2. It covers you, your partner and your kids. If you travel alone there are probably better options out there.

3. It covers you and your partner for breakdown in any vehicle up to 7 ton (Personal cover - even if you don't own it!) No limit on the number of vehicles. This is top AA cover in the UK and European cover included. Have a look at how much that would cost you elsewhere.

So - if it fits your circumstances then it's still excellent value. However, you need to do due diligence and go get quotes else where to see if you can do better - particularly if you do not need European breakdown or worldwide travel cover, or you don't travel with a partner/kids.

Just to add to - if you have a savings account with Nationwide (they usually have a excellent interest rate on their regular saver) in addition to the flex plus account, chances are you will get a £200 credit to your account each year - that will cover most of your £18 per month.

Are you sure they cover over 8mtrs ?

They certainly didn’t used to as that’s the only reason I didn’t open an account with them

I asked because Morocco is covered by LV in their European Annual policy along with Turkey.

Are we talking Travel Insurance or Breakdown cover? Breakdown certainly does not cover those countries - it only goes as far as Bosnia/Serbia.

For Travel insurance with Nationwide/Aviva it is automatically worldwide cover. You only need to consider whether you need European or worldwide when it comes to medical upgrades if you have any existing medical issues.

I'm another defending FlexPlus after researching insurance as we are thinking about a Jan/Feb tour driving through France and Spain and then Morocco.
I have just used the Nationwide/Aviva portal to get a quote for temporary upgrade to extend our cover for 7 weeks and it came back with £77.17 extra.
We are 73 and 62 with no medical matters of import (almost everyone over 65 is on Statins and acid reflux tabs nowadays, and I even declare the viagra!).
So my experience suggests give Nationwide a chance, it really does depend on your situation.

They don't in Europe.

I have breakdown included with my insurance but that won't repatriate my van either and I'd have to get it fixed somewhere anyway so might as well be in Europe

For 31 days unless you pay an additional premium.

As a 51 year old with no exsisting ailments they wanted £190 for me to extend my 31 days to their maximum time which still wasn't enough.

That's on top of the £196 already paying for the account , the breakdown doesn't cover me in Europe at 8.4 metres and the phone insurance excess is more than my phone is worth.

So it's a no from me.
