I've just been obtaining travel insurance quotes for 70+ adult with pre-existing medical condition (controlled blood pressure, controlled cholesterol). The quotes seem fairly hefty, even on comparison sites like Confused.com. My gripe is that nearly all quotes are for a maximum 31-day trip. Very few quotes were for a 45 day trip which is what I was looking for.
Any advice on appropriate insures who can offer a decent 70 + quote for 45+ days away in France?
I just wonder how full-timers manage!

I use the CMC for european travel insurance + breakdown no age limit and up to 122 days most pre existing conditions covered if under control

Safeguard, Post Office, Good to Go Insurance, and Avanti. But expect to pay because of age, pre-existing conditions and duration of the single trip.

Another vote for CMC. We have their Red Pennant insurance which also covers repatriation of us, the MH and the dog (!) if required. I guess it's not cheap but it gives me some confidence they would help if required.

They have policies covering up to 66 days from memory. Ours is multi-trip.

Similar situation but took the Post Office 45 day annual cover.

What are their prices like and would they take new business over 80s? That's my issue, you can't shop around. I left C&CC over a decade ago for van insurance because they had an age limit.

Our Lloyds bank account covers us up to 80 don't need to declare high BP d Colestrial.
Standard cover is 31 days and can be extended up to 90 days. We pay £90 to extends it to 45 days a year for the two of us. It's multitrip cover.

We're with Lloyds but just over the 80 mark. At least I am, Carol's just under. Not that I'm giving her age away!! 😁. But it might be worth looking into. Thanks.

If your going to France via the shuttle try their insurance. Its for 90 days but covers pre existing conditions. ( well it discounts them from reoccuring)

Probably to expensive for some but they do provide a belt an braces approach which covers all eventualities.

My friend from Runcorn had massive stroke whilst driving on the AP7 , thankfully he’d managed to pull over just in time
RP made sure he was treated in specialist stroke unit near Valencia
Transported his motorhome to the camp site they had booked on to and were making for when he took ill .
This meant his partner had a safe and secure place to stay whilst he recuperated.
Provided daily updates via telephone to her about his wellbeing
Paid for and organised taxis every day so she could visit
After 3 weeks he was released and pronounced fit to fly
RP arranged flights home and taxi at UK airport to collect them .
Transported his Motorhome back to the U.K. 10 days later on a transporter

As he says the insurance can seem expensive but when the you need help they are good

Try 'Insurance With' if you have pre-existing medical conditions. We got my wife's insurance down from over £2000 for 45 days to around £500. She's not 70 but worth a try.

We are away now in Spain and using euro tunnel insurance, they don't ask any medical conditions they cover them all as long as your doctor doesn't say that you shouldn't travel . It works out at about £34 a week for the 2 of us

We have just paid £285 for two people and a dog which is also covered for repatriation inc breakdown for 6 weeks single trip in 5 countries they say no age limit on single trip cover and 79 years or under on Multi-trip. From what I read I don't think your age is an issue no harm in asking.

Can't let age get in the way of adventure

We have used Nationwide society for tha last few years. It comes with breakdown insurance ; mobile etc etc.
saves cash and covers us Both as we Are Account holders. Can tailor add one for duration etc and age.

I priced that earlier this year, for a month it was a fair amount dearer but so so competitive, but I did ask could I just buy it but travel elsewhere, not surprisingly they said no. I'm going DFDS Newhaven this time, but thought I could find a better price. But thanks for the input.

The insurance is free if you have an Nationwide account which cost £13/ month.
For that you get annual global health/ travel ins. Mobile ins. Breakdown insurance for motor homes etc.

Yes indeed you do.ll However we find that for annual insurance and breakdown cover ( for both of us ) it is still cheaper than insuring all things separately.
Add ons for over 70 and ( like us 90 day extensions) are par for the course.

Only if you renew before 1 May. After 1 May change of travel insurance provider so no charge for over 70. Will still have to pay for pre existing conditions and more than 31 days same as most insurance companies.
