Touring in Iran

Currently a €uro cent per litre - users of Sterling would be paying the equivalent of about 8p for 10 litres...
I knew it was subsidised what with Iran being an oil producing country but I had no idea it was subsidised to that degree!!
That settles it.
Who is organising the funster rally.

Apologies for the delay.
This is the blog but there won't be any posts until they have left Iran.

I'll post the name of the travel company if I remember, 🤔🤣

It's the cheapest diesel in the world, apparently.

One country that sometimes gets unwarranted bad press is Oman. What a beautiful people and country. Been many many times.
Absolutely correct, we lived out there for 4 years in the late 70's and 80's, the most friendly folk and the nicest of all the Arabian countries I worked in. Our young lad had reddish fair hair and the Omani's were infatuated by him but nicely with it.
I actually got out of Iran during the revolution in late 79 on a Gulf air flight to Bahrain, it had an unscheduled stop in Shiraz and was boarded by the "security folk" who after a short time on board realised there would be little or no cooperation but in fact hostility from the passengers, mainly Americans so they left.
In the short time in Iran I found the locals really friendly, Teheran was a bit mad but you could go out at night to one of the many bars and have a beer (maybe not it was Skol brewed locally), but then in such a short time it really went dangerous when numerous western businesses car dealers, cinemas were attacked and burned.
I was working with the Iran Air Force and you could feel the tension between the pro and anti Shah technicians and those not knowing which side to support, we left them behind and I often wonder what happened to the pro group.
Have always wanted to revisit Oman, perhaps this will remind me to do it, it would be great to combine it with a return trip to Iran but probably sadly not in my lifetime. So sad.

Agree with Omanies being the friendliest Arabs.
Used to go into Muscat on a regular basis for the weekend as it was only a 4/5 hour drive from where we lived in Dubai.
It was late 79 when i went to The UAE so the Iran issue was done.
