Those of you who like to follow the TDF and plan your hols around it . Willy be interested to know that the 2018 route will be announced this coming Tuesday. Several stages have been leaked, they will be once again climbing the Alpe d'Huez and will be starting on the Isle de Noumoutier.

Yes, start delayed until Sat 7th July because of World Cup.
They are doing the Alpes before the Pyrenees with a 30 Km undulating TT around French Basque country.

We'll be there !!!

Just not sure where.....

Enjoyed the start and finish of stages this year which was a first time experience for us, but would really like to see a TT.

The question is can he do it again ?

we will be at noumoutier for the start and may follow it for another day. and yes he can !!!!

watching the thread as a reminder. And who is going to beat him ? Nobody in the same league atm.

Not sure whether to watch the first week and miss the trek to the Alpes or catch the Northern stages at the end of the first week and do a mega transfer down to the Alpes... Will have to discuss with SWMBO(n)

I'm heading to Alpe D'Huez end of February would love to do in July as well but I don't really want to be there for a week before the TDF arrives.

La Rosiere looks a possibility though if I can get parked up a day before

Several have said he is the man to beat, but remember he cannot win without his brilliant team.

You need 3 things to win a TDF:

Be one of the top 5 GC riders that year and be in form for that race
A great team
A dose of luck

Team Sky will be a very different team next year, in fact in a few weeks.

If Quintana foregoes the Giro and he's on form then he can win, same for Nibali although he can't not race his domestic grand tour.

Anyone willing to money on a Yates win for 2018 ? I would.

Park a bit away and ride there

Going to spend some time today route planning and see which may suit us best. I'd really like to go to the Alps but its a hell of a trek. Done it a few times in a car but never a MH.

You may find stages 14 and 15 are easier, not as dramatic, still elevated but nowhere near so busy and very pretty too.

we go MTBing at Les Saisies (which is at Montee de Bisanne) on the parcours and the tour is going through there on Wed 18th July when we are there, so cool!

Would love to head down to see the Alps stages but heading off to Slovenia a few weeks later, but a quick trip across the channel for the weekend we could do.

Looks like 5 days in the Pyrenees this year. Lourdes to Laruns stage 19 (200km) looks a good stage and close to home. Col Aspin, Col du Tourmalet and Col Aubisque. Three great classic tour cols!! Feeling for Marc Cavendish already !!!
Plenty of hard climbs in the 2018 Tour.

@BMStewart2004 would you have Any advice on planning how/where to watch the TDF ? We will probably go to Amiens/Arras.
Sorry if my thread was misleading - I meant I've driven to the Alps for Sportives in the car but not a MH.
The absolutely final route between the start/finish towns wont come out until May so hard to tell exact spots to go.
I've definitely try to get on a cobbled section up North as we did in 2014 when the weather was really grotty and it was sensational spectating - these guys are hard as nails.
Think the areas in the north will be for breakaways/sprints, I'd really like to get onto a climb but neigh on impossible to get a MH on one without getting there a day or two early. I'd ride to and up the Alpe d'Huez (see my Avarat) but my missus couldn't so thats out.

Stage 5 starts about 10kms from my house!!! I'll be there for that one. :)
