I know this subject has been on here before, but having experienced the absolutely vile municipal camping site washroom facilities at Epernay last year (photo gives a general ‘flavour’) we decided to take the plunge and splash out on a TWUSCH porcelain toilet liner for our Thetford C400 series. We only ever use our facilities for number ones, but this was the last straw! As we will be stopping there again this year, because of the lovely town, we will not use their washrooms, even though it is certainly not cheap to stay there (about 30 Euro per night).

I ordered the TWUSCH in February and could not fit it until a couple of weeks ago (weather/temperature)… however I realised I had ordered the wrong one (I thought I had a Thetford c500!). The Company were fantastic and were happy to accept a return and immediately despatched a replacement that day (email from the Company Director!).

It arrived in less than a week from Germany and I fitted it yesterday (took less than 30 minutes). I must say the ceramic liner looks very robust and exceptionally well made, it fitted to the toilet like a glove, you hardly even notice it other than the porcelain gleam!

Haven‘t used it in anger yet but am sure it will be a great improvement on the plastic original.

I recommend anyone who is interested to consider it. Top tip though (because of Brexit customs), order the liner and not the fitting kit in the same order, otherwise you’ll have to pay a duty charge of £59, as it breaches the threshold of £135 for duty free allowance in the post. If you order the liner (about £100-£120) the postage is free and there is no duty to pay.

Check and double check your Thetford model, as mine looked like a C500 in the online images I found, it was only after the liner arrived and it was clearly wrong (didn’t fit well) that I examined my original paperwork!

Well worth a consideration for those who are interested :)

I Fancy fitting one in our van👍👍 🤔🤔🤔

Carpmart have you fitted yours yet?

our loo isn’t a Thetford otherwise I’d definitely fit one. Much easier to keep clean. Thanks for sharing.

What is the advantage of fitting one of these?
So I understand… reduced marking and far easier to keep clean, plus flushing is easier with less likely for paper to stick to sides and need loads of flushing to clear. More hygienic too 👌

I don't understand the appeal as you can make the plastic bowl non stick and shiny with the use of car wax polish after thoroughly cleaning first. Slips off like a turd on a greased shovel. A term that came from the old steam train drivers and engineers that would use the shovel and throw the deposit into the fire. An early version of the incinerator toilets that are now offered

I’m too POSH for plastic… porcelain FTW. 😇

Looks to me like a solution to a problem that doesn't exist personally.
If people are really worried about skidmarks then I can highly recommend the following

🤢🤮. Dont fancy storing one of those in our ‘bijoux’ washroom 🤔

Never had a problem with these and £119 squiddlies for an insert 🫣🥹

I wouldn't put the photo of the urinals in the vile category, there is far worse out there.

I thought we had a free trade deal with the EU?

You need to tell that the the HM customs !!!
I am not telling anyone anything I was asking a question. I thought we had a free trade deal with the EU. Why are we paying import duty on something made in Germany?

Those loos are good compared to the public one here in St Martin D'Ardeche. Though free I decided after one look I wasnt that desperate.

I don’t know, other than this may be of assistance

It wouldn’t be for me, I just feel that there are more places for “splashes” etc to hide between the liner and the thetford bowl. Does the blade close to the liner or to the plastic underneath.?
Best way is to do the business with the blade open and hope for good aim.

The public toilets outside the acropolis were much worst than the ones in the pics, however when you pay at least 30 euros a night and are used to spotlessly clean campsites it is a bit of a shock to be presented with those standards (or rather lack of them). We were particularly shocked as Epernay is the heart of the Champagne district and I expected better. If it wasn’t for the fact there were no campsites nearby we would not have stayed there having seen the facilities.

The porcelain insert is ‘just’ below the plastic one leaving the blade to cover the ceramic tube. I did as someone on here suggested on an early thread (which prompted my purchase) put some sealant around the exit hole first and then seal the gap with the sealant smoothing with my sealant tool. The sealant purchased from the company is very specialised (used by boeing) and does feel a particularly tight and smooth seal IMHO.

Only for goods produced on the EU.

Edit. I see the photo says they were made in Germany.
yes, that was my understanding. I don't understand why a product made in Germany and sold to the UK would have customs import duty applied? VAT I can understand but not that.

Sorry, its my terminology you are quite right VAT 👍🏼

I have binned the customs charges note however the goods only just exceeded the threshold (about £150 total) yet I was charged £53 which is greater than 20% vat… probably handling charges!
